Atletico Madrid vs Man United Preview

Atletico Madrid have hit top form recently and beat some tough opponents in their four-match winning streak. Man United are lacking direction after a poor run of results and Atleti can take advantage with a Champions League win.

Rojiblancos on a 4 Match Winning Streak

  • Atletico Madrid have won their last 4 matches.
  • Atletico Madrid have won 2 of their last 3 games against Man United.
  • Man United have lost 2 of their last 4 matches.

H2H - Atleti Have the Edge

Atletico Madrid have a 3-1 advantage against Man United, alongside two draws.

Atletico Madrid Have Winning Momentum

Atletico Madrid are a tough-to-beat side and are undefeated in seven of their last nine matches in all competitions.

The La Liga side lost 2-1 at Liverpool in their opening Champions League match and replied with four consecutive wins.

Diego Simeone’s side started their win streak with a 3-0 victory at Real Sociedad and a 4-0 triumph against Osasuna. The Rojiblancos also beat city rivals Real Madrid 2-1 at home, dominating with 2.35-0.3 XG.

Atleti extended their winning run after the international break and beat Alaves 2-1 away. Alex Girmaldo and Cristian Romero scored and the Rojiblancos had 22 shots.

Man United Lacking Confidence

Michael Carrick’s Man United are out of form this season and have won just two of their previous eight games. One of United’s rare wins was a 4-0 home victory against Champions League newcomers Sabah Baku.

The Red Devils are winless in four games since that European victory. United lost their following two matches against Man City 1-0 and Brighton 3-2.

Carick’s side then came back from a goal down and drew 1-1 at Fulham, where Matheus Cunha equalised in the final minute.

The Manchester outfit also drew 1-1 against 10-man Tottenham on Saturday. United had -1 XG and Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring before Spurs levelled in the 92nd minute.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Atletico Madrid (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Marcos Llorente, Cristian Romero, Marc Pubill, David Hancko; Giuliano Simeone, Pablo Barrios, Morten Hjulmand, Alex Baena; Kang-In Lee, Julian Alvarez

Atletico Madrid have no injuries or suspensions.

Attacker Jonathan David is expected to start after scoring four and assisting two in his last seven appearances.

Man United (4-2-3-1): Senne Lammens; Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Diogo Dalot; Youri Tielemans, Kobbie Mainoo; Bryan Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford; Mathues Cunha

Winger Patrick Dorgu, striker Benjamin Sesko and midfielder Manuel Ugarte are ruled out due to injury.

Defensive pair Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt could miss out again. Carrick provided a recent update on Mazraoui and said, “He's not quite right, so we'll see how he is.”

Verdict

Atletico Madrid are a team on the up and have had some strong recent victories. Man United look unconfident and the Rojiblancos can keep winning in the Champions League.
