NorthEast United vs Mohun Bagan Predictions

NorthEast United host Mohun Bagan on Monday as the Indian Super League returns after a lengthy layoff.

Mohun have a strong record in this fixture, while NorthEast suffered a painful defeat in their last outing.

I have my stake on an away win at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium.

Mariners Hold the Edge in Guwahati

  • NorthEast United lost 5 of their last 8 matches against Mohun Bagan
  • Mohun Bagan won their last 3 away matches against NorthEast United (ISL)

Mohun Bagan Dominate League Meetings

NorthEast United and Mohun Bagan have met on 13 occasions in the Indian Super League since 2020.

Mohun Bagan won ten of those matches while NorthEast secured two wins.

NorthEast Reeling After Semi-Final Rout

NorthEast United return to action after a chastening 7-2 defeat against East Bengal in the IFA Shield semi-finals last Monday.

Juan Pedro Benali's side trailed 3-1 at the break and were outplayed at Kishore Bharati Krirangan, where East Bengal registered more than twice as many shots (21-10).

Alaaeddine Ajaraie's brace offered scant consolation as NorthEast suffered their heaviest defeat since 2023.

NorthEast began the tournament with a 3-0 win against Sreenidi Deccan before a 1-1 draw against Mohun Bagan secured their place in the last four.

The Highlanders finished ninth in last season's reduced ISL campaign, taking 16 points from 13 fixtures.

After winning just one of their first ten fixtures, NorthEast ended the season with three successive wins.

A poor home record against Mohun Bagan is a cause for concern, though. Benali’s boys lost four of their last five games against the Mariners at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium.

Mariners Secure IFA Shield Glory

Mohun Bagan return to ISL action in high spirits after a 1-0 win against East Bengal in the final of the IFA Shield on Thursday.

Samir Zeljkovic’s 44th-minute goal proved the difference as the Mariners claimed the title in front of a packed crowd at Salt Lake Stadium.

Serbian forward Dejan Drazic delivered a man-of-the-match performance as Mohun Bagan secured a deserved victory.

The Mariners remained unbeaten throughout the competition, thrashing Sreenidi Deccan 6-0 in the group stage before drawing 1-1 with NorthEast United.

A penalty shootout victory over Punjab secured Mohun Bagan’s place in last Thursday’s final.

Panagiotis Dilmperis’ side also reached the Durand Cup final in August, before a 4-1 defeat against East Bengal.

Usually a tough side to beat, Mohun are unbeaten in 16 of their last 17 matches since March.

ISL champions in 2025, the Mariners finished second in last season’s reduced ISL campaign. Mohun lost just one of their 13 fixtures.

NorthEast United vs Mohun Bagan Team News

NorthEast United (4-3-3): Gurmeet Singh; Redeem Tlang, Asheer Akhtar, Eneko Satrustegui, Buanthanglun Samte; Muthu Irulandi Mayakkannan, Louis Nickson Macarton, Nikola Ninkovic; Jithin MS, Alaeddine Ajaraie, Parthib Gogoi.

NorthEast United boss Benali is likely to make some changes to his first XI after last week’s disastrous defeat against East Bengal.

Macarton Louis Nickson is among those pushing for a recall after missing the Shield semi-final while on international duty.

Mohun Bagan (4-3-3): Vishal Kaith; Rahul Bheke, Mehtab Singh, Alberto Rodriguez, Abhishek Singh; Samir Zeljkovic, Deepak Tangri, Sahal Abdul Samad; Lallianzuala Chhangte, Lee Erwin, Dejan Drazic
.
Head coach Dilmperis has a couple of injury issues this week.

Jamie Maclaren is a doubt with a hamstring injury, while Ashish Rai remains sidelined with a knee problem.

Verdict

NorthEast's heavy semi-final defeat exposed defensive problems, while their ISL record in this fixture is poor.

I have my stake on Mohun Bagan to claim a narrow win in Guwahati.
