Vietnam vs Pakistan Predictions & Tips - Vietnam to Claim High-Scoring ASEAN Cup Win

Vietnam and Pakistan will clash for the first time in a FIFA ASEAN Cup Group B fixture. Despite Vietnam's recent loss to Thailand, they remain favorites, boasting 23 wins in their last 26 matches and a strong track record for high-scoring games. Pakistan, coming off a dramatic draw against the Philippines, are seeking to build momentum, but their defense has struggled, conceding six goals in two matches. Vietnam is expected to secure a comfortable win with over 2.5 goals, while both squads are making key changes for this matchup.

Vietnam vs Pakistan Predictions

Vietnam and Pakistan meet in their final FIFA ASEAN Cup Group B fixture on Friday.

Kim Sang-sik's side lost to Thailand on Tuesday, but should find more opportunities against a Pakistan defence that has conceded six goals in two games.

I fancy Vietnam to win with at least three goals scored.

Vietnam Win & Over 2.5 Goals Tipped

  • Vietnam won 23 of their last 26 matches
  • Vietnam have seen over 2.5 goals in 8 of their last 12 wins
  • Pakistan lost 11 of their last 14 matches (competitive fixtures)
  • Pakistan have seen over 2.5 goals in 10 of their last 14 matches (competitive fixtures)

Vietnam and Pakistan Set For First Meeting

Vietnam and Pakistan will meet for the first time in a competitive international fixture on Friday.

Vietnam Finally Beaten

Vietnam face their final Group B fixture after Tuesday's 2-0 defeat against Thailand ended their hopes of reaching the FIFA ASEAN Cup final.

Goals from Sarach Yooyen and Chaiyaphon Otton secured Thailand's place in Monday's final. The result also ended Vietnam's 27-match unbeaten run.

Kim Sang-sik's side had plenty of the ball (58%) but were unable to launch a fightback at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium.

Vietnam can still reach Monday's bronze medal match. A draw against Pakistan on Friday will be enough to secure second place in Group B.

The Golden Star Warriors sit second in the section with three points after a narrow 1-0 win against the Philippines on matchday one.

An incredible run of form in the past two years has seen Sang-sik's men win 23 and draw four of their last 28 fixtures.

Pakistan Secure Surprise Point

Pakistan make the trip to Jakarta after coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 with the Philippines in Bandung on Tuesday.

Trailing 2-0 at the break, Pakistan fought back to earn a first-ever FIFA tournament point with second-half goals from Ali Akbar Khan and Abdul Samad Arshad.

The Falcons scored twice from just six shots despite having only 35% of possession.

Tuesday's fightback followed a disappointing 4-0 defeat against Thailand three days earlier.

That result was more reflective of Pakistan's form over the past two years. The Falcons lost 11 of their previous 13 competitive internationals, conceding an average of 3.15 goals per game.

Solano's men did enjoy a four-game unbeaten run in four warm-up fixtures before this competition, beating Maldives and Afghanistan twice after a goalless draw with Bangladesh's Under-23s.

Ranked 99 places below Vietnam, Pakistan have not won a competitive fixture since a 2-0 win against Cambodia three years ago.

Vietnam vs Pakistan Squads & Team News

Vietnam Squad

Goalkeepers: Patrik Le Giang, Tran Trung Kien, Nguyen Van Viet
Defenders: Le Ngoc Bao, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh, Nguyen Adou Leygley Minh, Nguyen Nhat Minh, Pham Xuan Manh, Truong Tien Anh, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Phan Tuan Tai
Midfielders: Le Van Do, Le Pham Thanh Long, Do Hoang Hen, Ngo Dang Khoa, Nguyen Hoang Duc, Nguyen Hai Long, Vo Hoang Minh Khoa
Forwards: Nguyen Dinh Bac, Williams Minh Hoang, Nguyen Xuan Son, Nguyen Tai Loc, Pham Gia Hung

Head coach Sang-sik is expected to make some changes to his selection this weekend.

Do Hoang Hen, Lee Williams and Nguyen Hoang Duc are in contention to come into the side after all three came on at half-time against Thailand.

Xuan Son has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament after picking up an injury against the Philippines.

Speaking to the media this week, Sang-sik said his side had studied Pakistan after Tuesday's defeat to Thailand.

“Even though we failed to advance to the final, but facing Pakistan in the 3rd match of the group stage tomorrow, the whole team and players have analysed the video of the opponent together. Moreover, because this is also the first match against Pakistan, we must definitely win.”

Pakistan Squad

Goalkeepers: Yousuf Butt, Saqib Hanif, Hassan Ali
Defenders: Mohammad Fazal, Mohib Ullah, Abdullah Iqbal, Easah Suliman, Abdullah Shah, Mamoon Moosa Khan, Abdul Rehman, Haris Zeb, Ali Khan Niazi
Midfielders: Hayyaan Khattak, Alamgir Ghazi, Ali Agha, Ali Uzair
Forwards: Kaleemullah Khan, Abdul Arshad, Shayak Dost, Ali Khan, Umar Nawaz, Syed Ali Raza, Abdul Samad Khan

Head coach Solano is likely to make a couple of changes to his first XI.

Mohammad Hayan Khattak and Ali Agha Hazara are in contention for starting places after both impressed as half-time substitutes against the Philippines.

Speaking to the media after the historic result, which gave Pakistan their first-ever point in a FIFA competition, Solano praised his side:

“First of all, I think we had difficult moments in the match today. In the first half, we didn’t start in the way we had planned. It was tough in the beginning, and they scored a goal,” Solano said.

“But the most important thing today was the team's reaction. I am very pleased with how the team responded. It's not easy at this level to come back from two goals down. Towards the end, we even felt that we could win the game,” he added.

Verdict

Vietnam are usually a formidable outfit at this level, and they should be expected to claim a likely high-scoring win on Friday.

I'm backing the Golden Star Warriors to win with at least three goals scored.
