Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has won two ATP Tour titles since June to well and truly get the monkey off his back.

I don’t think the odds are making much sense here, Davidovich Fokina to beat Rafael Jodar and claim the title in Shanghai.

Davidovich Fokina Chasing Third Title Since June

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina waited a long time to win an ATP Tour title but has won two since June. He was victorious in Mallorca, Chengdu and could have a third within 24 hours.

The 27-year-old was last seen in Tokyo where lost 1-6 7-6 6-4 to Matteo Berrettini in the first round.

The Spaniard beat Jenson Brooksby 6-1 6-3 in his opening match in Shanghai before saving a match point in a 7-6 4-6 7-6 win against Frances Tiafoe. He saved battled hard to beat Hubert Hurkacz 1-6 6-3 7-6 before and had a walkover against Arthur Gea when he was 4-1 up.

Davidovich Fokina had a 1-10 record against Top 3 players but improved that in the semi-finals. He looked gone against Alexander Zverev but rallied to win 5-7 6-4 6-3, saving 2/3 break points.

Jodar a Big Improver in 2026

Rafael Jodar climbed from 165 to 11 in the rankings this year, winning the title in Marrakech and reaching the final in Washington. He had some shocking defeats in recent months.

The Spaniard suffered an unbelievable 6-2 6-1 6-1 defeat to Bu Yunchaokete in the US Open first round. He also lost 6-1 6-3 to Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in his opening match in Tokyo.

The 20-year-old fell behind in opening four matches in Shanghai. He got past Thiago Agustin Tirante 4-6 6-2 6-3, Jiri Lehecka 4-6 7-6 6-4, Botic van de Zandschulp 6-7 6-4 6-2 and Casper Ruud 4-6 6-4 6-3, proving his resilience.

Jodar did it far easier in the semi-finals, beating Daniil Medvedev 6-3 6-4 after winning 46% of his 2nd serves and saving 4/6 break points.

Verdict

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Rafael Jodar

Rafael Jodar is the favourite here but I think Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has a great chance in Shanghai. I am backing the underdog to win in 3 sets.
