Listed as one of the main title contenders are Hanwha Life Esports, who have yet to hoist the Summoner’s Cup.

The organization’s most notable accomplishment so far was a semifinal run in 2016 as ROX Tigers, but this could be the year that changes.

HLE have made several roster changes, and they seem to have found a winning recipe in 2026, having already won the LCK spring trophy and the Mid-Season Invitational. They failed to add another LCK trophy in the summer split, but came close, losing the grand finals to Gen.G.

Their regional rivals, Gen.G are billed as the main team to beat at LoL Worlds, after winning the LCK summer split, ending a fairly successful season.

They won two LCK trophies this year and placed third in the Esports World Cup and First Stand, proving they have the tools to compete on the biggest stages.

Known to slip at LoL Worlds, Gen.G will look to overcome their demons and make a run for the elusive Summoner’s Cup, and they have proven they have what it takes.

The third-best Korean team of the year and the reigning world champions, T1, join the list of serious title contenders. That's no surprise, as even though T1’s 2026 season has been largely underwhelming, they have become known for stepping it up a notch when LoL Worlds rolls around.

Even though T1 haven’t won a single trophy this year, they've shown signs of life in the final stretch of the season, and they didn't come far from contesting the LCK summer title. With enough time to prepare, T1 could easily re-emerge as the world’s best team.

Bilibili Gaming are China’s top dogs and serious LoL Worlds title contenders. They’ve emerged as the most dominant team of the Chinese region, and they have also left a very strong impression in international events, with a title from First Stand and a silver medal from the Mid-Season Invitational.

BLG have handled Korean teams earlier this year, which bumps them up a bit, making the LPL champions a team to watch out for.

Beyond the leading four, there are some outsiders who can make a splash. That mainly includes the LPL summer champions Anyone’s Legend, LCK’s Dplus KIA, and G2 Esports, with Invictus Gaming travelling to the United States as a dark horse.

None of those teams have accomplished as much as Gen.G, Hanwha Life Esports, T1, or Bilibili Gaming.

However, they’ve all shown high highs, and with the right meta and some momentum on their side, it is not beyond the realm of possibilities for them to shake up the balance of power.

Dplus KIA are an outsider who deserve a mention.

They’ve looked excellent for most of LCK Summer, and played just as well as T1, Hanwha Life Esports, and Gen.G for a long time. They ended up slipping in the playoffs, but that does not take away from everything they’ve accomplished over the last few months.

This roster has plenty of experience and the quality to make a splash at LoL Worlds. While Dplus KIA will need to avoid their old issues of turning into a pumpkin, the potential is there.

This is an experienced roster that's playing better in recent months than we've seen from them in years. The high-end ceiling is there, and they've shown it with destructive victories over the other elite LCK teams. It's just a matter of whether you trust them to keep that up with the long layoff.

Verdict

The 2026 League of Legends World Championship welcomes 19 of the world’s best LoL teams, many of whom have a realistic chance to make a run for the trophy.

Gen.G are listed as the team to beat, but it is fair to argue that they’re not significantly better than Hanwha Life Esports or T1, despite winning the summer split.

Out of the main three contenders, Bilibili Gaming are an interesting pick. They were the no.1 seed last year and completely collapsed, but they have had an excellent season and are far stronger than any LPL team. BLG have also troubled LCK teams earlier in the year, proving they can do well.

Listed as the least likely to win the tournament out of the main four favourites, Bilibili Gaming appear overlooked, especially considering Gen.G tend to choke at LoL Worlds, and Hanwha Life Esports, as good as they’ve been, tend to be unpredictable.

Dplus KIA to reach the finals is a long-shot bet, but worth a look.

Despite not winning much in 2026, Dplus KIA field a very capable roster, and ShowMaker, who is the type of player who can really step it up and lead his team to glory.

It is also worth noting that Dplus KIA, for most of the summer split, were just as good as other top dogs from the LCK, but ended up having a few slip-ups towards the end, which made it seem like DK’s season wasn’t as great.

Known to cause Gen.G issues, Dplus KIA can surprise and are an outsider who can not be ignored.
