Fils on the Road to Recovery

Arthur Fils became a Top 20 player last year before injuries stopped his momentum. He hurt his back at the French Open and made his final appearance at the Canada Masters.

The Frenchman returned to action in Montpellier, battling his way to the quarter-finals where he lost 6-4 6-2 to Felix Auger Aliassime. He suffered a 7-6 6-2 first round defeat against Alex de Minaur in Rotterdam.

The 21-year-old came back to beat Kamil Majchrzak in Doha and hasn’t lost a set since. He beat Quentin Halys 6-1 7-6 before praising new coach Goran Ivanisevic: “He’s helping me during the season. We are going to try [it out], but I think it’s good for me. It’s maybe the best for me to have his experience as a coach and as a player.”

Fils took out 8th seed Jiri Lehecka 6-3 6-3 in the quarter-finals, saving 5/7 break points.

Ten Straight for Mensik

Jakub Mensik won the Miami Masters last year, beating three Top 10 players on his way to the title. He ended 2025 with injuries hampering his progress.

The 20-year-old had an average start at the United Cup before winning the title in Auckland. He cruised into the Australian Open fourth round where he withdrew due to an abdominal injury.

The Czech needed 3 sets to get past qualifier Jan Choinski in Doha before thrashing Zhizhen Zhang 6-3 6-2 in 66 minutes. He shocked Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals, getting through 7-6 2-6 6-3 in an impressive performance to make it 10 straight wins.

Verdict

Jakub Mensik has won 10 straight matches and is coming off an impressive victory over Jannik Sinner. Arthur Fils is still finding his way back from injury, Mensik to advance in Qatar.
