Cobolli on Fire in Munich

Flavio Cobolli lost four of his opening five matches this year but bounced back to win the title in Acapulco. His inconsistency returned after suffering two early exits in Indian Wells and Miami.

The Italian failed to improve on clay, beaten 6-3 6-3 by World No.91 Alexander Blockx in the second round in Monte Carlo.

The 23-year-old is thriving in Munich where he is yet to drop a set. He took advantage of a soft draw to defeat Diego Dedura Palomero 6-4 7-5, Zizou Bergs 6-2 6-3 and Vit Kopriva 6-3 6-2.

Cobolli saved his best for the semi-finals where he took out top seed Alexander Zverev 6-3 6-3. His serve has remained consistent, winning more than 56% of his 2nd serves at the tournament.

Shelton Into Second Munich Final

Ben Shelton won 11 of his opening 13 matches in 2026, losing to Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open quarter-finals. He won the Dallas Open, taking out Taylor Fritz in the final.

The World No.6 failed to get past the third round in Indian Wells and Miami. He began the clay court swing in Houston where he went out to Thiago Agustin Tirante in the quarter-finals.

The 23-year-old has reached a second straight final in Munich and won over 66% of his 2nd serves this week. He beat Emilio Nava 7-6 3-6 6-3, Alexander Blockx 6-4 7-6 and upset the in-form Joao Fonseca 6-3 3-6 6-3.

Shelton was too good for Alex Molcan in the semi-finals, saving one break point in a 6-3 6-4 victory.

Verdict

Flavio Cobolli and Ben Shelton have met five times, three of those going the distance and one ending 7-6 7-6. The stage is set for another long match in Munich, the tie break markets in play in the final.
