Medjedovic in Fine Form

Hamad Medjedovic failed to get past the second round in four tournaments on hard courts. He has improved rapidly on clay, going 10-2 to close in on a career high ranking.

The Serbian won the Naples Challenger but couldn’t take that form to the ATP Tour, beaten by Vit Kopriva in the first round in Marrakech.

The 22-year-old produced a great performance in Barcelona where he beat Marco Trungelliti, Alex de Minaur and Nuno Borges in straight sets. He won the opening set in the semi-finals before falling to 3-6 6-2 6-2 defeat to Andrey Rublev.

Royer Outclassed on the ATP Tour

Valentin Royer is 1-10 on the ATP Tour this year, his only win coming against World No.190 Pierre Hugues Herbert in Doha.

The Frenchman recently got into the Madrid Masters where he was beaten 6-2 6-4 by Alejandro Tabilo in the first round.

The 24-year-old competed at the Aix-en-Provence Challenger last week. He lost 6-4 7-6 to qualifier Kimmer Coppejans in the second round, winning 36% of his 2nd serves.

Verdict

Valentin Royer has lost 12 of his last 13 first round matches on the ATP Tour. Hamad Medjedovic is coming off a strong performance in Barcelona and can maintain that form in Rome.
