Aryna Sabalenka faces Naomi Osaka in a highly anticipated Wimbledon fourth-round matchup. Sabalenka boasts a flawless fourth-round Wimbledon record and a 3-1 head-to-head edge over Osaka, including their two recent clay court encounters in 2026. Both enter the match without dropping a set this week, but Sabalenka, world No.1, holds significant momentum and historic consistency at this stage of Grand Slams. Osaka, enjoying her best grass-court season and returning from injury, will need to overcome a challenging Top 10 record to upset Sabalenka’s dominance.

Belarusian Extends Dominant Run

Aryna Sabalenka moved into the second week at Wimbledon after defeating Jelena Ostapenko 6-4, 6-4. Despite dropping her serve twice, the Belarusian remained in control throughout the match to seal another straight-set victory.

This is Sabalenka's fourth consecutive appearance in the fourth round at Wimbledon, and she has converted each of her previous three into a semifinal run. She defeated Elena Rybakina, Ekaterina Alexandrova, and Elise Mertens at this stage during those campaigns.

The world No. 1 endured a few disappointing defeats during the clay swing, losing to Hailey Baptiste, Sorana Cirstea, and Diana Shnaider, with each defeat coming after winning the opening set.

Apart from those setbacks, Sabalenka has enjoyed another outstanding season, reaching four finals and the semifinals in Berlin. She has reached at least the quarterfinals in seven of the eight tournaments she has played this year.

Sabalenka heads into this clash with a 16-3 career record in Grand Slam fourth-round matches. She has not lost at this stage since the 2022 Australian Open and is currently on a 14-match winning streak in Grand Slam fourth-round matches.

Osaka Chases Another Major Breakthrough

Naomi Osaka continued her impressive run at Wimbledon after defeating Daria Kasatkina in dominant straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. She won 81% of her first-serve points and broke her opponent's serve five times during the match.

This is Osaka's best result at Wimbledon. She had previously reached the third round on three occasions, but each campaign ended at that stage. It also marks the best grass-court season of her career.

The Japanese has won all three of her matches this week in straight sets, an impressive achievement considering she retired from the Bad Homburg final against Karolina Muchova due to a right foot injury just before Wimbledon.

Despite injury setbacks earlier in the season, Osaka has enjoyed a solid campaign. Before Wimbledon, she had played seven tournaments and won at least two matches in six of them, including fourth-round appearances at Indian Wells, Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros.

Osaka heads into this clash with a 5-3 career record in Grand Slam fourth-round matches. Two of her three defeats at this stage came against world No. 1 players, Simona Halep at the 2018 Australian Open and Aryna Sabalenka at Roland Garros earlier this year.

Verdict

Both players have carried strong momentum into the second week, winning all three of their matches in straight sets, which suggests this could be a competitive contest. However, Aryna Sabalenka's superior record at this stage of Grand Slams, combined with her consistent success at Wimbledon, gives her the edge to progress.
