Barcelona’s performance hinges on the shooting efficiency of Punter and Robinson, yet ongoing issues with defensive discipline put the team at risk. Match Preview
These two sides have already locked horns this season, with Barcelona claiming a narrow win in the Spanish Super Cup semifinals. However, their form has declined since then. The latest odds suggest a close contest in Catalonia.
Barcelona Struggling for Consistency
Barcelona have made a mixed start to the new season, registering four victories in eight appearances across competitions.
Blaugrana started their new EuroLeague campaign with an 89-82 comeback victory against Anadolu Efes, with Dario Brizuela starring with 20 points. However, Kevin Punter's 25 points were not enough to overcome Dubai in the second round, as Barca lost 94-87.
Barcelona then registered a 95-82 win in Turkey against Besiktas but squandered a huge lead at home against Zalgiris earlier this week, losing 88-81.
They outplayed Leyma Coruna 119-101 in their ACB Liga opener but suffered a shock 100-94 defeat to Murcia last weekend.
Valencia Riding a Four-Game Winning Streak
Even though their roster and leadership changed earlier this summer, Valencia continue to perform well across competitions, entering this game on a four-game winning streak.
The Oranges started this month with a 102-92 road victory against ASVEL in France, where veteran and former MVP Nikola Mirotic dominated with 22 points. They followed that up with a commanding 97-82 victory over Zaragoza last weekend.
Earlier this weekend, Valencia extended their winning streak with another EuroLeague victory, beating Hapoel Tel Aviv 93-82 in front of their home crowd. It was an impressive team effort, with five players contributing 10+ points.
Verdict
Barcelona's results depend heavily on Punter and Robinson's shooting efficiency, while the team continues to lack defensive discipline. Valencia look well organised and have a deeper roster, so I will back them to win this ACB Liga clash.
