The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams that are divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC).

The NFL regular season features 16 games that are played from early September to late December. Six teams from each conference then advance to the playoffs, where the champions of the NFC and AFC take each other on in the Super Bowl which is held in early February.

The NFL was formed in 1920 and the first Super Bowl was held at the end of the 1966 season. The NFL has the highest average attendance of any professional sports league in the world and is the most popular sport in the United States.

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest and most lucrative club sporting events in the world. The Pittsburgh Steelers have won the most Super Bowl championships with six, three teams have won five times including the New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers. The current champions are the Philadelphia Eagles.
