Japan vs South Korea Live Stream & Tips – Low-Scoring Asian Games 2026 Finals Expected

The upcoming basketball grand final is expected to be much more defensive compared to the group stages, where scoring was high. With South Korea boasting the best defense of the tournament thus far, predictions lean towards a lower total score, specifically under 164.5 points. The intensity and high stakes of the finals are likely to encourage a more cautious playing style, making a repeat of earlier high scores unlikely. Expect a tightly contested, defensively focused championship game.

Match Preview

Even though the odds were not on their side, Japan made it to the grand finals, which will be played in front of their crowd in Osaka. Can the Samurai pull off another upset and lift the trophy?

Japan Thriving After a Strong Knockout Run

Japan's performances were far from ideal in the group stages, finishing second with two victories against Indonesia 98-53 and Saudi Arabia 86-80, while suffering a heavy 100-83 loss against South Korea.

Rock-solid defending in the first half made the difference in the quarterfinal clash against Chinese Taipei, with the Samurai clinching an 85-78 victory.

Japan were tagged as big underdogs in the semifinals against China but delivered their best performance in the tournament, taking a 97-78 victory after entering the final quarter with a 31-point advantage.

South Korea Dominating on Both Ends

South Korea started the tournament with two statement victories against Saudi Arabia 82-66 and Indonesia 102-48, while even the hosts Japan couldn't stop them in the third round, claiming a third straight win 100-83 after stepping up defensively in the second half.

They looked amazing offensively in the quarterfinals as well, crushing Jordan 114-80 while allowing just eight points in the opening quarter.

An identical scenario was seen in the semifinals, holding Iran to just eight points in the first 10 minutes and cruising to another convincing 77-51 victory.

Verdict

I expect to see a completely different game in the grand finals than the one in the group stages, which was a shooting fest. The stakes couldn't be higher, and South Korea have had the best defense in the tournament so far, so Under 164.5 points is going to be my selection.
