United's defence has tightened considerably since the opener. After conceding 97 against Adelaide, they held SEM to 61 before allowing 84 against Tasmania. They nearly stole Thursday's game despite trailing by 12 points at three-quarter time.

Josh Oduro has quickly established himself as a major part of the offence, following 14 points in his debut with 21 against SEM and 22 against Tasmania. 

Cole Anthony remains Melbourne's leading perimeter threat, while Shea Ili is expected to make his first appearance of the season on Saturday.

Cairns Taipans Form


Cairns are 1-3 through four games, with their only victory coming at home against Tasmania. They have lost 111-90 to Sydney, 83-69 to Adelaide and 98-75 to New Zealand on the road, alongside a 93-87 home win over the JackJumpers.

The offence has gone backwards over the past fortnight. After scoring 90 and 93 in their opening two games, Cairns have managed only 69 and 75 in their past two. They're averaging just 78.0 points across their three away games.

Keanu Pinder remains one of their most important players and has collected seven rebounds in each of his past two appearances. 

Jack McVeigh continues to get plenty of shots from outside, but the Taipans haven't been able to turn that perimeter volume into consistent scoring.
