There were so many roster transitions and generational changes for the Turkish national team in the last couple of years, and no one was surprised to see them miss the previous World Championship edition in 2022.
Turkey's best result at the WC so far was in 2014, when they hosted the entire event, making it to the Final Four and then finishing in 4th place.
Australia Starting With a Convincing Victory
Australia's performance against heavy underdogs Puerto Rico was far from ideal, but they still claimed a convincing 70-54 victory, allowing just 24 points in the first half.
Their shooting was at just 38%, while they also posted 22 turnovers. Shephanie Talbot had an amazing performance with 19 points (7/9 FG shooting), eight rebounds and three assists.

Verdict
While I do think Australia will claim another victory here, I don't see them covering a –8.5 handicap. Turkey have no room for an error after losing to Belgium, and they lost by just three points against the Opals when they locked horns in the qualifiers.
