After averaging just 86 in the first set against Callan Rydz on Monday, Josh Rock knew that he had to raise his game. And that he did, rattling off the final four sets of the match, averaging 107 and 115 in sets two and three.
"Rocky" has dropped just two sets so far at this year's World Championships, and seems more comfortable than ever on the big stage. The 24-year-old came into this year's World Championships as one of the form players, and victory on Tuesday would set up a mouth-watering showdown with either Michael van Gerwen or Gary Anderson in the quarter-finals.
Verdict
There's no way that JOSH ROCK will be underestimating Justin Hood on Tuesday afternoon. "Happy Feet" might seem like a comedic figure, but he's thrown some exceptional darts to reach the fourth round on his tournament debut.
However, I loved the way Rock switched through the gears against Callan Rydz, breaking the spirit of his challenger with two sensational sets of darts. The world number 11 saw out that match well, and his doubling improved as the game wore on.
I could see Justin Hood taking a set, maybe two, but I full expect Josh Rock to pass this test and reach a maiden quarter-final. I'll be backing Josh Rock with a -1.5 handicap - meaning he must win the match 4-0, 4-1, or 4-2.
