FISSURE Playground #3 Tournament Preview
The focus shifts to China this week for the heavily anticipated FISSURE Playground, returning for the first time in a year.

FISSURE Playground #3 is an upcoming Tier-1 tournament, scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 8.

The event will be played at SND Cultural & Sports Centre in Suzhou, China, where 16 Counter-Strike 2 squads will battle it out for a share of the US$1,000,000 prize pool.

In attendance are some of the world’s highest-rated squads, 15 of whom have secured direct invites via the Valve Regional Standings (VRS), ensuring a competitive field that promises to produce unforgettable moments and exciting battles for top spots.

In the packed field, however, a few teams stand out as the more likely title contenders. That includes FURIA, who are the reigning FISSURE Playground champions, and other strong runners-up in G2 Esports, Legacy, and FaZe Clan, who’ve all had their moments in recent months.

So while the top-rated bookmakers have picked out their favourites for the event, there is more than one squad in the running that has a serious chance of hoisting the trophy.

Here you can find our free FISSURE Playground #3 tournament preview and betting predictions for the event, along with format details, favourites, and odds, from the top-rated CS2 betting sites.

When Does FISSURE Playground #3 Start?

FISSURE Playground #3 is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 8, with the first group-stage games. The event will run for six days and conclude on Sunday, September 13

FISSURE Playground #3 Format

FISSURE Playground #3 uses a straightforward format, dividing the event into two stages – the group stage and playoffs.

The action begins with two GSL-format groups of eight teams, where the squads will play a series of BO3 games to determine which six teams (three per group) will proceed to the playoffs.

Group stage winners get a direct semifinal bye, while the second- and third-placed teams proceed to the quarterfinals as high and low seeds, respectively.

The playoffs move to a single-elimination bracket, with all matches played as best-of-three, except for the grand final, which is best-of-five.

  • Two GSL-format groups
  • 16 teams
  • All games are BO3
  • Group winners get a semifinal bye
  • Runners-up proceed to quarterfinals as high seeds
  • Third-place teams proceed to quarterfinals as low seeds

FISSURE Playground #3 Favourites & Odds

FISSURE Playground #3 will welcome 16 Counter-Strike 2 teams, most of whom have secured invites based on their VRS position. This ensures plenty of talent in attendance, and many teams with a realistic chance to make a run for the trophy.

Yet according to the bookmakers, only four squads are listed at single digits and have a higher than 10% chance of hoisting the trophy.

FURIA are atop that list at 3.25 as the main title contenders at FISSURE Playground #3. This comes as no surprise considering FURIA have spent the last few months competing in some of the season’s biggest events and have consistently left a positive mark.

They, notably, made the finals of the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne Major and recently reached the playoffs of BLAST Open Fall. Compared to other teams in attendance at FISSURE Playground #3, FURIA have shown higher highs, but they are not the only squad with the tools to succeed.

G2 Esports have also been making noise in their recent competitive endeavours, notably with a quarterfinal run at the Esports World Cup and IEM Cologne Major. They also reached the quarterfinals of BLAST Open Fall this month, before losing to the reigning Major champions, Team Falcons.

Not quite one of the elite rosters, G2 Esports have proven they have the tools to deal with any team at FISSURE Playground #3.

Legacy are another interesting contender, as they’ve been seriously impressive in recent events. Legacy placed third in the Esports World Cup, won the CS Asia Championships, and even took a bite out of Vitality and Falcons at BLAST Open Fall.

Performances like that indicate a high ceiling and potential to surprise in China.

Similarly, FaZe Clan have shown they can play at a very high level late. While success hasn’t come their way consistently, FaZe have placed third at Stake Ranked E2, top four at XSE Pro League and BLAST Bounty Summer, and made the playoffs of the Esports World Cup.

Over that stretch, FaZe have shown fight against elite teams, including Team Vitality and Spirit, which is a promising sign of good things to come.

Verdict

FURIA are favoured to win FISSURE Playground #3, but they are not the only serious threat for the title. In fact, G2 Esports should get slightly more attention.

G2 Esports have been steadily improving over the last few months, and while their tournament placements might not indicate it, G2 have been playing exceptionally well. They’ve often come close to beating stronger teams, suggesting G2 are edging close to their top form.

Another team that deserves attention is Legacy. They didn't go very far at BLAST Open Fall or the IEM Cologne Major, but over the last four months, they’ve been very consistent, producing some memorable games. They did a great job at the EWC and came very close to beating Falcons and Vitality at BLAST Open Fall.

If Legacy can keep it up, a deep run in China should be within reach.
