The ATP has officially announced the creation of a tenth Masters 1000 event, set to be held in Saudi Arabia starting in 2028. This marks the first expansion of the Masters series in 35 years, signaling a new chapter in the global tennis calendar.

The tournament will be a non-mandatory event, featuring a 56-player field over the course of one week. Exact dates are yet to be confirmed, but February—post-Australian Open—is the leading option, although a pre-Australian Open slot has not been ruled out. 

Backed by the Public Investment Fund, the partnership with #SURJSports and the ATP Tour is part of Saudi Arabia’s growing ambition to establish itself as a major hub for world-class tennis. The move also places the Kingdom alongside the elite list of hosts for ATP Masters 1000 tournaments.

Saudi Arabia has been steadily building a sporting profile on the global stage. Two years ago, it successfully moved the ATP Next Gen Finals from Milan to Jeddah, and it also introduced the Six Kings Slam, a unique event where the top six players in the world compete for one of the sport’s biggest prizes. Hosting the 10th Masters 1000 now adds to Saudi Arabia’s strategy of diversifying the country, attracting tourists, and positioning itself as a major sporting nation.
