Braga Getting it Done at Home


Braga have been strong at home and susceptible on the road, as evidenced by their round of 16 tie against Ferencvaros.

After losing the first leg 2-0 in Hungary, they won 4-0 in Portugal where Ricardo Horta scored twice. It was their eighth home win in ten games, the only hiccups coming in draws against Benfica and Sporting CP.

The Warriors lost 2-1 against Liga Portugal leaders Porto in their previous clash at the Quarry. They were on track after Rodrigo Zalazar’s opener before conceding two late goals.

Carlos Vicens’ side are coming off a deserved 1-0 win at Moreirense where they had 60% possession and 1.24-0.40 xG. Fran Navarro got his first start since January and scored the winning goal.

The manager was pleased with the victory: "We should have been a little calmer, maintaining control of the game. But, in general, the team performed well defensively and offensively. There are always aspects to improve and that, today, we could have done better."

Betis Struggling on the Road


Real Betis come into this clash in poor form having won only one of their previous eight games. It came at home in the Europa League round of 16, 4-0 against Panathinaikos after losing 1-0 in the first leg.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have suffered three straight road defeats. The last one was a 2-1 loss at Athletic Bilbao where they ended with 0.48-1.27 xG.

Betis are coming off a 0-0 draw against Espanyol in a match they dominated. They had 70% possession, 19-8 shots and 1.38-0.20 xG, Pablo García hitting the woodwork late on.

Pellegrini was disappointed with the result: "There's little to criticize the team for. We let two points slip away;. We have to convert our chances. We deserved more, but of course we're annoyed to have four consecutive draws at home."

Real Betis have been poor on the road and lost at PAOK and Panathinaokis this year. Braga are better than those teams and can outscore the Spanish side on home soil.
