Pacheco Starts his Casa Pia Reign


Casa Pia have been struggling all season, Joao Pereira sacked in November with Goncalo Brandao taking over for eight games. Alvaro Pacheco became the new manager last week.

Pacheco’s first match was a tough one, a 3-0 defeat at Primeira Liga champions Sporting CP. They were predictably outplayed, ending with 0.22-2.02 xG.

The new boss commented after the game, saying: “We've had five training sessions, we're changing habits and behaviors, and when we have these breaks, at this level small details can cause some damage.”

“In the first half, we didn't allow Sporting what they like and are strong at, their deep runs, as well as Trincão's inside play; we were managing to do that.”

AFS Rock Bottom


AFS remain the only team to win in the Primeira Liga and deservedly sit bottom of the table. Joao Henriques became the third manager of the season in December.

Henriques’ first game in charge ended in a 2-2 draw against Nacional after Tomane and Tunde Akinsola scored to establish a 2-0 half-time lead.

The Vila das Aves club haven’t scored in three games since, the latest a 1-0 defeat to Arouca. Cristian Devenish was sent off in the 5th minute which was a big hill to climb.

Henriques was positive despite the defeat, saying: "I'm very proud of the players who were on the field. We had to make changes due to the sending-off, but what we saw, especially in the second half, was the enormous character of these players."

"We had a disallowed goal in the second half, we shot more, we had the best opportunity, we were everywhere, it seemed like we were the ones who were superfluous. These players don't throw in the towel, not at all. I'm very confident for the very near future."

I think Casa Pia’s and Jeremy Livolant’s form will improve under Alvaro Pacheco. AFS have been way off the pace in the Primeira Liga and are set for another defeat.
