Dundee face Clyde at Dens Park aiming to secure progression in the League Cup. Dundee’s strong home form and recent scoring spree make them favorites, while Clyde’s hopes rest on overturning poor away results. Dundee’s attacking prowess, coupled with recent high-scoring wins, points to a likely home victory with over 2.5 goals. Both teams have squad updates, with Dundee possibly rotating after a penalty defeat and Clyde sticking with their recent winning lineup. The key recommendation: Dundee to win with an expectation of multiple goals.

Dundee vs Clyde Predictions

Dundee return to Dens Park looking for a victory that could see them qualify for the next phase of the League Cup.

The Dark Blues have made an impressive start to the competition and should have too much quality for their League Two visitors.

I have my stakes on Dundee to win with over 2.5 match goals, and team goals.

Dundee Backed at Dens Park

  • Dundee won 5 of their last 7 matches (competitive fixtures)
  • Dundee have seen over 2.5 goals in 8 of their last 11 matches
  • Clyde lost 5 of their last 7 matches
  • Clyde have seen over 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 7 matches

Dundee and Clyde Meet For First Time Since 2009

Dundee and Clyde have not met since the 2008/09 Championship campaign. Both teams claimed two home victories in that season.

Dundee Remain in Group D Contention

Dundee return to Dens Park after a hard-fought penalty shootout defeat at Ross County earlier this week. Finlay Robertson gave the Dark Blues a first-half advantage before Brian Graham levelled matters in the second period.

With no further goals, the Staggies eventually claimed victory with a 7-6 success via spot kicks.

Despite that defeat, Tony Docherty's side remain in contention to qualify for the next phase. Dundee find themselves one point behind Group D leaders Ross County, who finish their group phase campaign at Airdrie this weekend.

The Dark Blues began their League Cup campaign with an entertaining 4-2 opening-day win against Airdrie before an emphatic 5-0 success at Annan.

A strong run of form at Dens Park has seen Docherty’s side win each of their last four home fixtures. The Premiership side are unbeaten in eight of their last nine competitive games in Dundee.

The hosts have also improved in front of goal, with 17 goals scored in their last six competitive fixtures since the end of last season.

Three-time winners of this competition, Dundee last lifted the trophy in 1974.

Clyde Impress Against Annan

Clyde travel to Dens Park still in with an outside chance of securing qualification for the next phase of the League Cup.

The Bully Wee claimed an impressive 4-1 win against Annan on Tuesday, to leave them third in the section with six points on the board.

Kyle Connell scored twice in the opening four minutes and completed his hat-trick by half-time in a dominant display from the League Two outfit.

Darren Young's side began their League Cup campaign with a narrow 1-0 win against Airdrie before a 3-1 reversal at Ross County. The Cumbernauld-based side must now win this fixture while hoping County stumble in their trip to Airdrie on Saturday.

A poor road record proved Clyde’s downfall in their unsuccessful push for League Two promotion last season. The Bully Wee lost four of their last five away games, leaking 12 goals in the process.

One of the oldest teams in Scotland, Clyde have not won a domestic cup competition since their Scottish Cup triumph in 1958.

Dundee vs Clyde Team News

Dundee: (4-3-3) Harrison Sharp; Dylan Wright, Ryan Astley, Aaron Donnelly, Idris Odutayo; Finlay Robertson, Ethan Hamilton, Zan Besir; Callum Jones, Reilly Finnigan, Charlie Reilly.

Head coach Docherty could make one or two changes from the side that was edged out in Dingwall earlier this week.

Simon Murray, Joe Westley and Brad Halliday are among those pushing for a recall.

Clyde: (4-2-3-1) Jay Hogarth; Liam Rooney, Craig Howie, Sam Campbell, Bruce Strachan; Marley Redfern, Barry Cuddihy; Kyle Connell, Lewis Lovering, Nathan Cannon; Scott Williamson.

Clyde boss Young seems likely to stick with the same side that breezed past Annan Athletic earlier this week.

Kyle Connell will feature after his super midweek hat-trick.

Verdict

Dundee have an excellent recent record at Dens Park, and another high-scoring home win should be expected this weekend.

I have my money on Dundee to win with over 2.5 goals.
