Liverpool host Nottingham Forest with positive momentum, remaining unbeaten in their last three games at Anfield. Andoni Iraola’s side is firing up offensively, with Cody Gakpo scoring 7 times in 8 matches. Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, appear underprepared, losing five of their last seven and struggling for goals. Liverpool have a 61-33 advantage against Nottingham Forest, alongside 30 draws.

Liverpool Seeking Home Momentum

Liverpool ended the 2026/27 season in solid home form and went unbeaten in their final three at Anfield. The Reds also lost just one of their three pre-season friendlies at home.

Andoni Iraola’s side lost 3-2 to Monaco before a 0-0 draw and 2-0 victory over Como. Cody Gakpo scored the opening goal during the Como triumph.

The Merseysiders came back twice and held Newcastle to a 2-2 away draw on Sunday. Liverpool created chances with 2.98 XG and 27 shots and Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai scored.

Nottingham Forest Look Underprepared

Oliver Glasner’s Nottingham Forest have been unconvincing recently. They have lost five of their previous seven games and failed to score in four matches.

Forest lost 1-0 against Udinese and Barcelona before ending pre-season with back-to-back home wins.

The Tricky Trees began their 2026/27 campaign with a 1-0 Premier League home defeat to Leeds. Glasner’s side had just 0.66 XG and two shots on target.

The Midlands outfit lost 2-0 against Leeds again in the EFL Cup second round. Forest allowed 2.25 XG, attempted eight shots and conceded twice in the second half.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Jeremie Frimpong, Jeremy Jacquet, Virgil van Dijk, Milos Kerkez; Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch; Rio Ngumoha, Florian Wirtz, Cody Gakpo; Alexander Isak

Striker Hugo Ekitike and defensive pair Conor Bradley and Geovani Leoni are ruled out due to injury.

Joe Gomez and Federico Chiesa missed the Newcastle game and could return against Forest. Andoni Iraola recently explained that Gomez’s recovery time from a muscle injury “shouldn’t be a lot more”.

Nottingham Forest (3-4-2-1): Matz Sels; Murillo, Nikola Milenkovic, Jair Cunha; Ola Aina, James McAtee, Ibrahim Sangare, Neco Williams; Dan Ndoye, Kalimuendo; Liam Delap

Midfielder Ryan Yates and defender Nicolo Savona are injured and unavailable.

Morgan Gibbs-White is an injury doubt following a recent knee problem. Oliver Glasner provided an update on the midfielder before the Leeds cup game and said, “We’re working really hard to get him fit for the Liverpool game on Saturday.”

Verdict

Liverpool and Andoni Iraola will want to make a winning start at Anfield and can beat an unconvincing Nottingham Forest. Cody Gakpo is a big attacking threat and can score in a Reds home win to nil.
