Tottenham vs Newcastle Preview

Tottenham have loads of quality available and are a decent home team. Newcastle have struggled to keep the goals out lately and a Spurs win is the best bet in the Premier League.

Key Stats - Toon Out of Form Away

  • Tottenham have won 6 of their last 10 games.
  • Newcastle have lost 3 of their last 4 away Premier League matches.

H2H

Tottenham have a 74-66 advantage against Newcastle, alongside 35 draws.

Tottenham to Come Good Under De Zerbi

Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham have been busy in the summer transfer market. The north Londoners have signed top-level players Savinho, Sandro Tonali, Omar Marmoush and Mateus Fernandes.

Spurs had a positive pre-season and won four of their seven friendly matches. Tottenham beat MK Dons 1-0, Auckland 2-0, Chelsea 2-1 and Hoffenheim 3-0.

De Zerbi’s side made a slow start to the new campaign and fell to a 3-0 Premier League loss at Brentford.

Tottenham hit back in the EFL Cup and thrashed Charlton 5-1 at home. Mikey Moore, Dominic Solanke, Kevin Danso, Savinho and Ben Davies scored and Spurs had 20 shots.

Newcastle Have Long-Term Problems on the Road

Newcastle had one of the Premier League’s worst away records last season. The Toon were winless in 15 of their 19 away matches and lost 10.

The Tyneside outfit ended the 2026/27 season with a 2-0 defeat at Fulham. Newcastle also lost 4-1 away in pre-season against second-tier side Bristol City.

Matthias Jaissle’s team played out a 2-2 draw at home against Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday. The Magpies led twice and allowed 2.98 XG.

Newcastle then beat Championship opponents West Brom 3-2 in the EFL Cup second round. Bazoumana Toure and Harvey Barnes found the net and the Toon allowed 1.48 XG.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Antonin Kinsky; Pedro Porro, Jan Paul van Hecke, Marco Senesi, Andy Robertson; Rodrigo Bentancur, Sandro Tonali; Savinho, Mateus Fernandes, Mathys Tel; Dominic Solanke

Attackers Wilson Odobert and Mohammed Kudus and midfield duo Xavi Simons and Dejan Kulusevski are ruled out due to injury.

James Maddison is also unlikely to feature following an injury against Brentford. Roberto De Zerbi confirmed the midfielder’s injury recently and said, “Maddison suffered a small injury in his shoulder.”

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Lukas Hornicek; Amar Dedic, Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman, Lewis Hall; Lewis Miley, Jacob Ramsey; Anthony Elanga, Yoane Wissa, Harvey Barnes; Nick Woltemade

Defender Dan Burn, striker William Osula and midfielder Joelinton are injured and unavailable.

Verdict

Tottenham have added star quality to their ranks and will want to build Premier League momentum at home. Spurs can take all three points against a Newcastle side that struggles on the road.
