Coventry and Hull, both seeking vital points at the start of the Premier League season, face off in a closely-matched contest this Saturday. Analysts predict a tightly contested match, recommending a draw at 3.6 odds for strong betting value. Additionally, a 1-1 draw at 8 odds is highlighted as a promising option. Backing a draw is considered the best approach given both teams’ similar motivations and expected performances.

Coventry vs Hull Preview

Coventry are a tough-to-beat home side and Hull are in solid early-season form. These newly promoted Premier League sides won’t want to lose here and a draw is the best bet.

Coventry Undefeated in 6

  • Coventry are on a 6 match unbeaten run at home.
  • Coventry have drawn 3 consecutive matches against Hull.
  • Hull have drawn 2 of their last 3 games.

H2H - Lots of Recent Draws

Hull have a 21-18 advantage against Coventry, alongside 14 draws.

Coventry Hoping to Bounce Back at Home

Coventry are a strong home side and lost just two league games at the Building Society Arena last season.

Frank Lampard’s side have won their last four home matches, including friendly victories over Espanyol 3-1 and Monaco 2-0.

The Sky Blues couldn’t carry winning form into the new Premier League season and lost 3-0 at Arsenal.

The Midlands team recovered in the EFL Cup and comfortably beat Plymouth 4-2 away. Taiwo Awoniyi and Jack Rudoni scored after five minutes and Ephron Mason-Clark and Victor Torp struck in the second period.

Hull Have a Foundation to Build on in the Premier League

Sergej Jakirovic’s Hull rarely lose and have avoided defeat in 10 of their previous 11 in all competitions.

The Tigers’ only recent defeat was a 2-0 friendly loss to Eintracht Frankfurt. They followed that result with a 0-0 stalemate against Nice.

Hull stunned Man United and won 2-0 in their Premier League opener on Saturday. Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy scored before half time and Hull closed out the victory.

Jakirovic’s outfit extended their unbeaten run to three games with a 1-1 EFL Cup draw at Stoke. Kieran Dowell cancelled out Stoke’s early opener and the Tigers eventually won 5-4 on penalties.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Coventry (4-1-4-1): Carl Rushworth; Milan van Ewijk, Bobby Thomas, Aurele Amenda, Jay Dasilva; Matt Grimes; Loum Tchaouna, Caleb Yirenkyi, Frank Onyeka, Brandon Thomas-Asante; Ellis Simms

Forward Haji Wright is out due to a muscle issue.

Defenders Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Luke Woolfenden are also unavailable. Frank Lampard ruled out the injured duo for Coventry’s upcoming games and said;

“It’s a hamstring with Kaine and a small issue with Woolfy’s knee that’s been bothering him through pre-season, so yeah, that’ll be weeks.”

Hull (5-4-1): Konstantinos Tzolakis; Lewie Coyle, Semi Ajayi, John Egan, Nobel Mendy, Ryan Giles; Mohamed Belloumi, Matt Crooks, Regan Slater, Elliot Stroud; Ollie McBurnie

Goalkeeper Jack Butland and defenders Charlie Hughes and Matty Jacob are ruled out with injuries.

Midfield trio Eliot Matazo, Darko Gyabi and Oscar Zambrano, and striker Joe Gelhardt are also injured.

Verdict

Coventry and Hull need points early in the Premier League season. A closely contested clash is expected on a Saturday and a draw has value.
