Famalicao, boasting an unbeaten nine-game run, host title-chasing Benfica in a crucial Primeira Liga clash. Benfica, while undefeated in their last nine, are struggling with recent away form at Famalicao and need a win to keep their slim title hopes alive. Famalicao's strong defence and consistency under Hugo Oliveira have seen them frustrate top sides recently. The expert consensus tips this to be a tight, low-scoring affair with Famalicao likely to earn a draw, putting a dent in Benfica's title aspirations.

Famalicao have a formidable defence and recently earned draws at Porto and Braga. Benfica have lost their last two encounters in Famalicao but can avoid defeat this time.

Benfica have lost 2-0 in their last two trips to Famalicao but still lead 23-3 alongside four draws.

Famalicao Fighting for Fourth

Famalicao are undefeated in nine matches as they look set to secure European football next season. They ended March with three straight wins and opened April with three draws.

The first was an impressive 2-2 draw at Porto where they ended with 1.81-0.40 xG. They were unlucky not to beat Moreirense before conceding a 99th minute penalty in a 2-2 draw at Braga.

Justin de Haas’ penalty was the difference as Hugo Oliveira’s side won 1-0 at Estoril last time out.

The manager praised his side after the performance: “I'm extremely satisfied with the team's performance every day. For a team of this level, so young, to be so consistent is extremely difficult. We haven't had much ups and downs.

“That's because the team is extremely dedicated. They believe in the ideas. And that's why today was, once again, a victory for the team. An important victory against a very, very good team.”

Benfica in a Battle for Second Spot

Benfica are still undefeated in the Primeira Liga but time is running out in their title chase. They sit seven points behind Porto with three games remaining.

The Eagles won 2-1 at Sporting CP in their last away game. Anatoliy Trubin saved an early penalty before Rafa Silva scored a dramatic winner in added time.

Jose Mourinho’s side are coming off a 4-1 win against Moreirense. They led 2-1 approaching added time when substitute Franjo Ivanovic scored two goals to seal the deal.

The manager always thought his team had the game under control: “In the second half, we always had control, even though they had possession at times, but they didn't create any danger.

“I made changes and I knew that with those players I would bring more intensity, depth, and speed to the game. In the final part, Vasco did what any coach would do. They were losing 2-1 and took risks to try and get the equaliser.”

Predicted Lineups & Team News

Famalicao (4-2-3-1) Lazar Carevic; Rodrigo Pinheiro, Ibrahima Ba, Justin de Haas, Rafa Soares; Tom van de Looi, Mathias de Amorim; Gil Dias, Gustavo Sa, Sorriso; Simon Elisor

Hugo Oliveira has a settled squad with no changes expected.

Benfica (4-2-3-1) Anatoliy Trubin, Amar Dedic, António Silva, Nicolas Otamendi, Samuel Dahl; Fredrik Aursnes, Richard Rios; Gianluca Prestianni, Leandro Barreiro, Andreas Schjelderup; Franjo Ivanovic

Dodi Lukébakio and Gianluca Prestianni compete for a spot on the left wing. Andreas Schjelderup and Franjo Ivanovic could return to the starting side at the expense of Rafa and Vangelis Pavlidis.

Verdict

Famalicao have the fourth best defence in Liga Portugal and won their last two home games against Benfica. I think this will be a low scoring encounter and end in a draw.
