Germany and Ivory Coast both enter their 2026 FIFA World Cup Group E clash in Toronto after impressive opening wins. Germany displayed attacking prowess in their 7-1 rout over Curacao, extending their scoring run to 10 consecutive matches but also showing defensive frailty. Ivory Coast, with a 1-0 win over Ecuador, have also scored in their last 10 games and remain a threat up front. The match is set up for both teams to score, with neither side likely to keep a clean sheet. Prediction: Both teams to score.

Germany and the Ivory Coast are aiming to build on wins in their opening fixtures at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as they meet in a Group E clash at Toronto Stadium.

The Germans were rampant last time out, and with the West Africans also looking lively in attack, goals can be expected in this one.

Key Stats

  • Germany have scored in their last 10 matches in all competitions.
  • Germany have conceded in four of their last five matches in all competitions.
  • Ivory Coast have scored in their last 10 matches in all competitions.

One Previous Meeting

There has been only one previous clash between Germany and the Ivory Coast, with both teams playing out a 2-2 draw in a friendly back in 2009.

Germany’s Rampant Showings

Germany began their group E campaign with a smooth 7-1 victory over Curacao. They had multiple goalscorers, with Kai Havertz netting a brace while Jamal Musiala and Deniz Undav were also on target.

That result extended an impressive winning streak for Germany, who came into the World Cup in confident mood. Julian Nagelsmann's team have won their last 10 matches in all competitions, stretching back to the qualifiers in September.

Germany's play is anchored on a prolific attack that has scored in their last 10 matches in all competitions. However, their open style often leaves them exposed at the back, and are without a clean sheet in four of the last five fixtures in this run.

Elephants Holding Their Own

Ivory Coast also began their World Cup campaign with a win, claiming a 1-0 victory over Ecuador. They were made to work hard for the win, with Amad Diallo's late effort proving the difference.

While it was a hard-fought victory, the Ivory Coast could have won by more, with Yan Diomande and Bazoumana Toure missing solid opportunities. However, the result is consistent with their recent showings, having gone unbeaten in nine of their last 10 matches in all competitions.

The task for the Ivory Coast heading into this clash will be to improve on their finishing. Emerse Fae’s team have been generally solid lately, scoring in their last 10 matches in all competitions.

Team News and Predicted Line-ups

Germany (4-2-3-1): Manuel Neuer; Joshua Kimmich, Jonathan Tah, Nico Schlotterbeck, Nathaniel Brown; Alexander Pavlovic, Felix Nmecha, Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, Kai Havertz.

Germany came away from their opening fixture with no injuries or suspensions and should stick with the side that thrashed Curacao. Havertz should lead the line once again, with Musiala and Florian Wirtz providing support while Jonathan Tah is set to continue at the back.

Ivory Coast (4-4-2): Yahia Fofana; Guela Doue, Wilfried Singo, Emmanuel Agbadou, Ghislain Konan; Amad Diallo, Franck Kessie, Seko Fofana, Yan Diomande; Elye Wahi, Ange-Yoane Bonny.

Ivory Coast have a fully fit squad and are likely to make a few changes to their team. Diallo scored off the bench in the opening fixture and could earn a start, while Bonny could also play from the beginning after impressing as a substitute.

Verdict

Germany looked sharp in attack against Curacao, but gave away a few chances at the back.

Ivory Coast have the quality to punish any defensive lapses from the Europeans, making both teams to score a good bet.
