Gangwon and Gamba Osaka face off for a spot in the AFC Champions League Elite league stage. While Gangwon have struggled, failing to win five of their last six matches and coming off a shock home defeat, Gamba Osaka arrive in high spirits having won seven of their last eight continental matches and recently making a dramatic comeback against Urawa Reds. With their superior form and experience, Gamba Osaka are tipped to progress. Key players may return to the lineup for both teams, and Gamba's recent signings add strength to their squad.

Gangwon vs Gamba Osaka Predictions

Gangwon and Gamba Osaka battle it out for a place in the AFC Champions League Elite league stage on Tuesday.

The Japanese side lifted the AFC Two title last season,  and they should have enough continental experience to edge past their out-of-form hosts.

I have my stake on Gamba to qualify for the AFC Elite League stage.

Gamba Tipped to Progress

  • Gangwon failed to win 5 of their last 6 matches
  • Gamba Osaka won 7 of their last 8 matches (AFC Champions League Two)

First Competitive Meeting Between Gangwon and Gamba

Gangwon and Gamba Osaka will meet for the first time on Tuesday.

The winner will progress to the AFC Champions League Elite league stage, while the losing side will drop into the AFC Champions League Two.

Gangwon Suffer Shock Home Defeat

Gangwon return to continental action after suffering a surprise 3-0 home defeat against Bucheon in the K League last weekend.

Despite dominating the ball with 75% possession, the Bears were undone by a smash-and-grab display from the KL1 strugglers.

Chung Kyung-ho’s side have now failed to win five of their last six games played in the past month.

The Korean side gained valuable AFC Champions League Elite experience last season, progressing from the league stage before being eliminated in the round of 16.

Gangwon struggled to find winning form, however, failing to win each of their final seven continental fixtures, including their last three at Gangneung Stadium.

Gamba Show Fighting Spirit

Gamba Osaka make the trip to South Korea in high spirits after claiming a thrilling 4-3 victory against Urawa Reds in the J1 League last weekend.

Trailing 3-2 with less than ten minutes remaining, late goals from Welton and Asahi Uenaka secured a remarkable comeback victory.

The Japanese outfit secured their place in Tuesday’s play-off by winning the AFC Champions League Two last season.

Deniz Hummet scored the only goal as the Japanese side claimed a 1-0 victory against an Al-Nassr team featuring Cristiano Ronaldo. Osaka won seven of their final eight matches in the competition, including each of their last five continental fixtures.

The Nerazzurri’s continental success came under Jens Wissing, who has since left the club to join Al-Ittihad. Tomokazu Myojin was appointed as Wissing’s successor last month.

Myojin’s men are now bidding to qualify for the AFC Champions League Elite for the first time since the competition was rebranded in 2024.

Gangwon vs Gamba Osaka Team News

Gangwon: (4-4-2) Park Cheong-hyo; Lee You-hyeon, Shin Min-ha, Marko Tuci, Hong Chul; Mo Jae-hyeon, Seo Min-woo, Lee Seung-won, Kim Dae-won; Abdallah Hleihel, Park Sang-hyeok.

Chung Kyung-ho could make changes to the side that slumped to defeat against Bucheon. Seo Min-woo, Abdallah Hleihel and Park Sang-hyeok are all pushing for recalls after appearing as half-time substitutes last time out.

Gamba Osaka: (4-2-3-1) Rui Araki; Takeru Kishimoto, Ginjiro Ikegaya, Shinnosuke Nakatani, Ryo Hatsuse; Shuto Abe, Rin Mito; Ryoya Yamashita, Issam Jebali, Welton; Asahi Uenaka.

Gamba boss Myojin could make one or two changes to the side that edged past Urawa last weekend. Asahi Uenaka and Welton are tipped to earn recalls after goalscoring substitute appearances against Urawa Reds last weekend.

Australian midfielder Eli Adams is available after arriving on a permanent transfer from Newcastle Jets.

Verdict

Gamba Osaka have the experience to overcome a tough Gangwon side on Tuesday.

I have my stake on the Japanese side to qualify for the AFC Elite.
