Liverpool, displaying solid form and resilience under Andoni Iraola, are expected to secure victory over an underperforming Tottenham in the EFL Cup at Anfield. The home side's consistency gives them a strong edge, while Tottenham's lack of confidence and direction further tilts the matchup. Backing Liverpool to win at odds of 1.83 is the key recommendation.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Preview

Liverpool have been solid this season and have picked up some good victories in recent games. Tottenham are lacking any sort of attacking threat and a Liverpool EFL Cup win is likely.

Key Stats - Spurs Out of Form

  • Liverpool have won 2 of their last 3 matches.
  • Liverpool have won 4 of their last 5 home games against Tottenham.
  • Tottenham have lost 2 of their last 3 away matches.

H2H - Reds Advantage

Liverpool have a 94-50 advantage against Tottenham, alongside 45 draws.

Liverpool in Tough-to-Beat Form

Liverpool rarely lose and are on an eight-match unbeaten run in all competitions. The Reds have also won two of their last four home games.

Andoni Iraola’s side drew 2-2 in their opening two Premier League matches against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. They responded with a 2-0 away win at Ipswich, where Alexander Isak scored a brace.

The Merseysiders then beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 at home in the Champions League. Iraola’s side had 1.62-0.91 XG and Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis MacAllister scored.

The Reds’ unbeaten start to the 2026/27 campaign continued after a goalless home draw against Fulham. Liverpool limited Fulham to 0.68 XG and couldn’t score the winner with 14 shots.

Tottenham Are Unthreatening

Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham have made a slow start to the new season. Spurs notched their only win of the campaign against Charlton 5-1 in the EFL Cup second round.

Tottenham lost their opening two Premier League matches 3-0 at Brentford and 2-0 at home against Newcastle. The north Londoners stopped that mini-losing streak with a goalless stalemate at Nottingham Forest.

Spurs played out another 0-0 draw at home against Everton on Saturday. De Zerbi’s team were unthreatening with 0.69 XG and just two shots on target.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Giorgi Mamardashvili; Jeremie Frimpong, Ronald Araujo, Wataru Endo, Konstantinos Tsimikas; Alexis MacAllister, Trey Nyoni; Rio Ngumoha, Lewis Koumas, Victor Munoz; Alexander Isak

Attackers Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa and defensive pair Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are injured.

Joe Gomez could return to the squad after a muscle injury. Andoni Iraola was positive the defender would return before the international break and said, “I hope we can have him before the break, let’s say.”

Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Martin Dubravka; Archie Gray, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marco Senesi, Ben Davies; Lucas Bergvall, Sandro Tonali; Mohammed Kudus, Conor Gallagher, Savio; Dominic Solanke

Forward pair Mykhailo Mudryk and Wilson Odobert are sidelined due to injury. Midfielders Xavi Simons and Dejan Kulusevski are also injured and unavailable.

Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie are injury doubts. Roberto De Zerbi explained that he doesn’t “want to take any risks” with the defensive pair.

Verdict

Liverpool are in decent form and have been hard to beat under Andoni Iraola. Tottenham are lacking any sort of threat and the Reds can secure an EFL Cup triumph at Anfield.
