Everton and Wolves both enter this EFL Cup encounter with solid form, making defeat a rarity for either team. With each side keen to preserve their positive starts to the season, a close and competitive draw is projected. Bookmakers favor a draw at full time, with the most probable scoreline suggested as 1-1. Fans can expect a nail-biting cup tie with little to separate the teams after ninety minutes.

Everton vs Wolves Preview

Everton have started the new campaign in tough-to-beat form and the Toffees draw a lot. Wolves are in similar strong form and an EFL Cup draw is a good pick at Goodison Park.

3 Everton Draws on the Spin

  • Everton have drawn their last 3 games.
  • Everton have drawn 1-1 in 2 of their last 4 matches against Wolves.
  • Wolves are unbeaten in 12 of their last 14 matches.

H2H

Everton have a 65-52 advantage against Wolves, alongside 30 draws.

Everton a Strong Outfit Under Moyes

David Moyes’ Everton are in good long-term form and are unbeaten in seven matches, drawing four.

The Toffees started the new season with back-to-back wins against Crystal Palace 2-0 and Preston 4-0 in the EFL Cup.

A run of three consecutive draws followed, starting with a 1-1 comeback stalemate at Bournemouth. Everton also came from behind twice and held Man United to a 2-2 home draw.

Moyes’ team were held to a 0-0 at Tottenham on Saturday. The Merseysiders had the better chances with 1.11-0.69 XG and couldn’t score the winning goal.

Wolves Looking Positive in 2026/27

Wolves have hit top form since Cesar Peixoto’s appointment this summer. The Midlands side are undefeated in 10 of their 12 games in all competitions under Peixoto.

Wanderers started the 2026/27 season with a 3-0 EFL Cup victory over Port Vale. That win started a five-match unbeaten streak, including another cup triumph at Sheffield Wednesday 2-0.

The Old Gold followed the Sheffield Wednesday win with a 4-1 win over Stoke, a 4-2 loss at West Ham and a 2-2 draw at Birmingham.

Peixoto’s outfit hit back and beat Sheffield United 1-0 away. Wolves had 1.86 XG, 63% possession and Raul Jimenez scored in the 90th minute.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Everton (4-2-3-1): Jordan Pickford; Jake O’Brien, James Tarkowski, Michael Keane, Vitali Mykolenko; James Garner, Hayden Hackney; Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tyrique George; Thierno Barry

Defender Merlin Rohl is also an injury doubt after missing the Tottenham match.

Midfielder Christian Norgaard is ruled out due to injury. David Moyes explained that the midfielder would not return before the September internationals and said:

“Norgaard is still unavailable, the hope is he will return after the international break.”

Wolves (4-2-3-1): Joao Virginia; Kieran Trippier, Toti, Ladislav Krejci, Hugo Bueno; Jordan James, Marshall Munetsi; Rodrigo Gomes, Tommy Doyle, Matheus Mane; Adam Armstrong

Defender Yerson Mosquera is injured. Attacker Rafiki Said and midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde are also sidelined with injuries.

Raul Jimenez is unlikely to start this cup game. Cesar Peixoto highlighted the importance of managing the striker’s game time and said:

“He’s 35 years old and he’s a very important player for us, but this week we have three games close together, so we have to manage his minutes.”

Verdict

Everton and Wolves don’t lose many games and both sides will want to maintain their positive starts to the new campaign. A closely contested EFL Cup draw is likely on Wednesday.
