Ipswich vs Arsenal Preview

Ipswich have lost against top-quality opponents this season and struggled to threaten Liverpool in their last home game. Arsenal have enough depth to rotate and seal another win to nil in the EFL Cup.

H2H - Arsenal Win a Lot

Arsenal have a 32-18 advantage against Ipswich, alongside 11 draws.

Ipswich Lose Against the Top Teams

Gary O’Neil’s Ipswich comfortably progressed in the EFL Cup after beating Leicester 3-1 in the second round.

The Tractor Boys lost their following two fixtures after that cup triumph, 5-2 at Man United and 2-0 against Liverpool. Ipswich were outplayed in both games, facing 43 total shots.

The Suffolk team responded with a 3-2 comeback victory against Crystal Palace on Saturday. Ipswich conceded first and goals from Emmerson, Leif Davies and Zian Flemming secured the victory.

Arsenal Use Their Defensive Strength

Arsenal are in excellent long-term form and have avoided defeat in their last 14 competitive matches. Mikel Arteta’s side have kept 10 clean sheets and conceded just four goals in that spell.

The Gunners started the new season in top form, winning all six games and conceding one goal.

Arsenal beat Man City and Coventry 3-0 in their opening two games before a 1-0 triumph at Aston Villa. Further victories came against Chelsea at home 2-1 and Napoli away 1-0.

The north Londoners maintained their winning streak with a 2-0 victory at Sunderland. Arsenal had 1.88 XG and Bruno Guimaraes and Bukayo Saka scored after half time.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Ipswich (4-4-1-1): Christian Walton; Dara O'Shea, Issa Diop, Jacob Greaves, Leif Davis; Florentino, Exequiel Palacios; Jaden Philogene, Julio Enciso, Daizen Maeda; Zian Flemming

Midfielder Jack Taylor has a knee injury and is ruled out.

Emmerson sustained a quadriceps injury against Palace. Gary O’Neil explained that the forward is unlikely to feature in the Arsenal game and said, “I’ll probably rest him in the week, I would think.”

Arsenal (4-2-3-1): Kepa Arrizabalaga; Jurrien Timber, Ezri Konsa, Piero Hincapie, Myles Lewis-Skelly; Martin Zubimendi , Bruno Guimaraes; Max Dowman, Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke; Viktor Gyokeres

Centre-back William Saliba is unavailable with a long-term back issue. Defender Ben White is an injury doubt after coming off during the Sunderland match.

Cristhian Mosquera could return to the squad following a recent muscle injury. Mikel Arteta highlighted the Ipswich game for the defender's potential return and said:

“He’s doing really well. “Let’s see if he can get [back] for this game, it will be around that time.”

Verdict

Ipswich are unlikely to trouble an in-form Arsenal side that has excellent defensive depth. The Gunners can keep another clean sheet and beat the Tractor Boys in the EFL Cup.
