Millwall meets Newcastle in the EFL Cup with contrasting recent form. While Millwall showed mixed early results, including heavy losses to strong opponents, Newcastle have impressed under Matthias Jaissle, going unbeaten in four and beating Spurs away. The Lions' recent struggles against quality sides give the Premier League Magpies the edge in this match-up. Both teams face injury issues but Newcastle are favored to continue their momentum. The key recommendation is to back Newcastle to win as they build strong form early in the season.

Millwall have a 9-5 advantage against Newcastle, alongside four draws.

Millwall in Mixed Early Season Form

Millwall started the 2026/27 campaign in solid form and were undefeated in four consecutive games. The south London outfit drew 1-1 at QPR and beat Cambridge 1-0 to progress in the EFL Cup.

Alex Neil’s side followed the Cambridge victory with back-to-back Championship defeats. Millwall lost 5-1 at Southampton and 3-0 against Wrexham, allowing over 4 total XG across the two games.

The Lions ended that mini losing streak and beat Bolton 4-0 at the Den. Caleb Taylor scored before half time and Lyndon Dykes and Camiel Neghli scored in the final 10 minutes.

Newcastle Building Under Matthias Jaissle

Newcastle have found good early season form under new boss Matthias Jaissle, winning and drawing twice in four games.

The Toon held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in their season opener before defeating West Brom 3-2 in the EFL Cup. Jaissle’s outfit were in control against the Championship side with 2.62 XG.

The Tyneside team continued their strong start to the campaign and defeated Tottenham 2-0 away.

Newcastle then came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth in the Premier League. The Magpies conceded twice in 35 minutes and Harvey Barnes and Jacob Ramsey hit back.
