Portsmouth and QPR are both known for high-scoring matches, with both teams frequently finding the net and conceding goals. This makes the BTTS (Both Teams To Score) and Over 2.5 Goals markets particularly appealing for their upcoming game at Fratton Park. Recommended bets are BTTS Yes at odds of 1.75 (3 units), Over 2.5 Goals at 1.91 (3 units), and Over 3.5 Goals at 3.4 (1 unit). The key takeaway: Expect plenty of action and goals in this fixture.

Portsmouth vs QPR Preview

Portsmouth concede in most games and QPR have been very high-scoring recently. Goals are likely in this Championship opener.

Key Stats - BTTS Regulars

  • Portsmouth have seen BTTS in 8 of their last 10 games.
  • QPR have seen BTTS in their last 2 matches.
  • QPR have seen over 4.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 games.

H2H - Plenty of Recent Goals

QPR have a 16-13 advantage against Portsmouth, alongside 14 draws.

Portsmouth Have a Poor Defence

John Mousinho’s Portsmouth ended last season 18th in the Championship table and conceded 64 goals in 46 games. Pompey’s defensive issues continued in pre-season after just one clean sheet in six friendlies.

Portsmouth drew 1-1 with Bristol Rovers and Farnborough either side of a 3-1 loss to Wycombe. The south coast team completed pre-season with a 0-0 draw against Darmstadt.

Mousinho’s outfit started the 2026/27 season with a 3-1 EFL Cup first round defeat at West Ham. Adrian Segecic struck first on 33 minutes before Portsmouth allowed 2.06 XG and conceded three goals.

QPR Score and Concede Loads of Goals

QPR had the second-worst defence in the 2025/26 Championship, conceding 73 goals and scoring 61. The Hoops lost their last four matches last season and let in 10 goals.

Julien Stephan’s team continued their high-scoring streak towards the end of pre-season. The R’s beat Fiorentina and AFC Wimbledon 3-2 and thrashed League One Bromley 7-0.

The London side came back from a goal down and drew 1-1 with Millwall on Saturday. QPR had 12 shots, allowed 1.16 XG, conceded first and equalised through a late own goal.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Forwards Josh Murphy, Harvey Blair, Keshi Anderson, Franco Umeh and goalkeeper Josef Bursik are also injured.

Mousinho addressed Portsmouth’s injury crisis after the West Ham loss and said, “You saw today (against West Ham) with what we put out, that was everything we had in terms of fit pros.”

QPR (4-2-3-1): Pierce Charles; Amadou Salif Mbengue, Jimmy Dunne, Ronnie Edwards, Boy Kemper; Harvey Vale, Nicolas Madsen; Rumarn Burrell, Ilias Chair, Paul Smyth; Richard Kone

Stephan was confident the trio would be available for the Portsmouth trip and said, “I think they will be OK and will be available.”
