Sheffield United and Birmingham are both eager to keep their positive momentum from pre-season as they face off in the new Championship season. Given their closely-matched strengths and solid preparations, the match seems set for a tight outcome. The key recommendation: back the draw (at 3.4 odds) and consider a 1-1 scoreline (at 6.5 odds). Both sides are looking strong and may have to settle for a point each to kick off their campaigns.

Sheffield United Building Momentum

Sheffield United will look to improve on a disappointing 13th-place finish in the 2025/26 Championship campaign.

Chris Wilder’s side showed signs of improvement in pre-season and were undefeated in six friendlies, winning four.

The Yorkshire outfit played one home friendly and comfortably beat Huddersfield 3-1. United completed pre-season with a 2-0 triumph at Rotherham and a 0-0 away draw at Bochum.

The Blades maintained momentum in their 2026/27 season opener against Mansfield and won 3-0. Wilder’s side had 2.68 XG, 20 shots and Patrick Bamford, Mark McGuinness and Callum O’Hare found the net.

Birmingham to Remain Unbeaten Early in 2026/27

Chris Davies’ Birmingham were one of the most in-form sides late in the 2025/26 Championship season. The Blues gained 11 points from their final five matches, winning three.

The Midlands team continued their positive form in pre-season and won four games. Victories came against Huddersfield 3-1, Solihull Moors 3-0, Burton 1-0 and Crewe 2-1.

Birmingham’s upturn ended with a 2-2 home draw against Spanish giants Barcelona. Davies’ side were competitive with 1.14 XG and four shots on target.

The Blues extended their unbeaten run to four games in all competitions following a 1-0 EFL Cup victory at Swansea.  August Priske struck the winning goal just before half time with Birmingham’s only shot on target.
