Wanderers showed signs of positivity under new manager Cesar Peixoto in pre-season. The Midlands team won three of their four friendlies and conceded just one goal.

The Old Gold cruised to pre-season wins against Maidenhead 1-0, Doncaster 2-0 and Racing Santander at home 3-0.

Peixoto’s side carried their strong form into the new campaign and beat Port Vale 3-0 at Molineux in the EFL Cup. Wolves controlled the game with 69% possession and Adam Armstrong, Andre and Fer Lopez scored to secure the win.

Blackburn Struggling for Rhythm

Blackburn struggled in the 2025/26 Championship and finished just five points above the relegation zone in 20th position. Rovers were winless in five of their final six games and failed to score in three of those matches.

Tony Mowbray was named as the new Blackburn boss in June and oversaw a mixed pre-season. Rovers were winless in three of five friendlies, drawing 0-0 with Accrington, 1-1 against Huddersfield and losing 3-0 at Nottingham Forest.

The Lancashire outfit came from a goal down to beat League One side Burton Albion in the EFL Cup first round. Blackburn conceded in the 14th minute, allowed 1.85 XG and Andri Gudjohnsen and Jayden Fevrier struck in the final 10 minutes.

Tony Mowbray gave a recent update on the injured Blackburn players and said, "Only (Lewis) Miller still around Christmas time, I think.

“But, it's a few weeks, a little twinge in a hamstring, a little slight tear in the thigh or whatever it might be. Three weeks, two weeks, four weeks and hopefully they'll all be back."
