Juventus are heading into their upcoming match against Lazio with renewed confidence, following victories over Celta and Atalanta. Historically, Lazio have struggled to trouble Juventus in Turin, losing eight of their last nine meetings there. Based on these trends and recent performances, Juventus are favored to secure another home win when the teams meet on Sunday.

I expect Lazio’s form to decline in the coming weeks. They allowed 10-man Monza to create four goal-scoring chances last weekend, so backing Juventus to win on Sunday is my top recommendation.

Key Stats

  • Juventus have won 3 of their last 4 matches.
  • Juventus have won 8 of their last 9 home matches against Lazio.

97-Year-Old Rivalry

These two clubs clashed 198 times so far, Juventus having a 102-50 lead in terms of victories.

Juve at 50% Win Rate in Italy

Juventus are coming off a 2-1 road victory against Celta Vigo in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, Randal Kolo Muani scoring the winning goal in stoppage time, while Nick Woltemade found the net earlier.

Luciano Spalletti’s side is not doing great in Serie A, collecting just 11 points in six rounds and currently sit in 6th place. Last weekend, they slipped in Sardinia against Cagliari 1-1.

Speaking of their home performances, the Old Lady is playing well in Torino, claiming victories against Atalanta 2-0 and Parma 2-0, while the clash against AC Milan ended in a 1-1 draw.

Lazio’s Results are Impressive

Lazio are having a fantastic start to the new Serie A campaign under Gennaro Gattuso, accumulating 16 out of possible 18 points so far and share 1st place with Inter Milan.

The only game the Sky Blues didn’t win was at home against AC Milan 2-2 in mid-September, wasting a two-goal lead, but bounced back instantly by defeating Venezia 2-0 on the road.

They returned to action after the international break last weekend with a 3-1 win over Monza in Rome, Tijjani Noslin providing assists for Nuno Tavares and Gustav Isaksen in the first half, while Andrea Pinamonti finished the job in the 88th minute.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Juventus (4-2-3-1) Guglielmo Vicario; Pierre Kalulu, Gleison Bremer, Jhon Lucumi, Zeki Celik; Douglas Luiz, Pape Matar Sarr; Edon Zhegrova, Weston McKennie, Nicolas Gonzalez; Randal Kolo Muani

Captain Manuel Locatelli remains sidelined alongside Kenan Yildiz, Khephren Thuram, Jeff Ekhator, and Kamil Grabara, while Jeremie Boga is doubtful. Kerim Alajbegovic is likely to start on bench after not so great performance against Celta Vigo.

Lazio (4-3-3) Christos Mandas; Romano Floriani Mussolini, Danilho Doekhi, Oliver Provstgaard, Nuno Tavares; Davide Frattesi, Reda Belahyane, Kenneth Taylor; Gustav Isaksen, Tijjani Noslin, Mattia Zaccagni

Lazio have arrived without injured forwards Albert Gudmundsson and Matteo Cancellieri, though Danilo Cataldi returned to fitness. Adam Marusic and Nicolo Rovella are also unavailable.

Verdict

It’s been a long time since Lazio last caused Juventus serious trouble in Turin, losing eight of their last nine head-to-head meetings there. The Old Lady have regained confidence with recent wins over Celta and Atalanta, so I’m backing a home win on Sunday.
