Sweden vs Poland Prediction & Tips – Gyokeres to Send Sweden to the World Cup 2026

Sweden is riding high on confidence after demolishing Ukraine to reach the playoff finals. The Swedes, led by star striker Viktor Gyokeres, are expected to perform well at home. In contrast, Poland struggled for creativity, narrowly eliminating Albania, which suggests Sweden is better positioned to succeed in the upcoming match. With momentum on Sweden's side, backed by their recent performances, and the firepower from Gyokeres, the expectation is for a Swedish victory in the playoff finals.

Swedes Cruised Past Ukraine 


Sweden claimed a spot in these additional World Cup 2026 playoffs after  winning the UEFA Nations League C Group 1 in late 2024. They secured five wins and a draw against Slovakia, Estonia and Azerbaijan.   

They are coming off one of the worst runs in the WC qualifiers in nation’s history, claiming just two points in six games to finish last in Group B behind Switzerland, Kosovo and Slovenia. 

The first victory under new national coach Graham Potter came when they needed it the most, last week in the WC 2026 qualifying playoff semifinals against Ukraine 3-1 where Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres scored three times. 

Poles Failed to Impress in the Semifinal 


Poland had a rough start to the WC 2026 qualifiers, but they appointed Jan Urban as the new national coach in July last year, results improved and snatched 2nd place ahead of Finland, behind the Netherlands.   

They wrapped up the qualifiers with a 3-2 road victory against Malta where Piotr Zielinski secured points with his 85th minute goal. Robert Lewandowski and Pawel Wszolek also appeared on the scoresheet.   

The Eagles were behind for 63 minutes in an elimination match last week against Albania when Lewandowski found an equalizer, while a 2-1 win was secured with Zielinski’s goal ten minutes later.  Poland ended this clash with 0.91-1.11 xG.

Out of form Alexander Isak was not called up, as well as Emil Forsberg and Emil Krafth. A lot of eyes will be on Viktor Gyokeres who is expected to lead the attack, currently sitting at 31 appearances and 18 goals for the national team. Victor Lindelof is the captain with 74 appearances. 

Poland (4-3-2-1): Kamil Grabara, Tomasz Kedziora, Jan Bednarek, Jakub Kiwior, Matty Cash, Bartosz Slisz, Piotr Zielinski, Michal Skoras, Sebastian Szymanski, Nicola Zalewski, Robert Lewandowski

Przemyslaw Frankowski and Lukasz Skorupski are injured, while Adam Buksa, Bartosz Kapustka and Kacper Kozlowski are not called up. Robert Lewandowski is expected to lead the attack. He is currently at 164 appearances and 89 goals for the national team.

Confidence is going in favor of Sweden who demolished Ukraine to reach the playoff finals, while Poland lacked creativity and were lucky to eliminate Albania. I am backing the Swedes to win at home and their star striker Viktor Gyokeres to find the net.
