The Open de Espana is set to showcase elite golf talent from October 8-11, 2025, in Madrid. Notable contenders include Ludvig Aberg making his debut, Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra aiming for a third win this season, defending champion Marco Penge, and Joakim Lagergren coming off a string of strong performances. The Open de Espana comes up next on the DP World Tour from October 8-11 with a strong field set for Madrid.

Marco Penge returns to defend his title after a playoff victory over Daniel Brown in 2025.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Ludvig Aberg

Ludvig Aberg has been in solid form on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour lately, placing T9 at the Open Championship, T7 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T16 at the BMW Championship, T4 at the Tour Championship, T27 at the BMW PGA Championship, and T11 at the recent FedEx Open de France.

Other notable results achieved by Aberg this year include a T20 at the Genesis Invitational, a T3 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, a T5 at the Players Championship, a T5 at the Valero Texas Open, a T21 at the Masters, a T4 at the RBC Heritage, a T8 at the Truist Championship, and a T4 at the PGA Championship.

The Swede will make his debut at the Open de Espana this weekend.

Aberg has been knocking hard this season and can emerge victorious in Spain this weekend.

Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra

Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra has rediscovered his touch from earlier this season on the DP World Tour lately, placing T21 at the British Masters, T4 at the Omega European Masters, T36 at the Amgen Irish Open, T21 at the BMW PGA Championship, and T3 at the FedEx Open de France in five starts.

Other prominent performances achieved by Lopez-Chacarra this season include 3rd at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, a T15 at the Dubai Invitational, a T21 at the Puerto Rico Open, 2nd at the Hero Indian Open, a T9 at the Tulum Championship (Korn Ferry Tour), a T18 at the Turkish Airlines Open, a T10 at the Catalunya Championship, a T22 at the Soudal Open, a T12 at the Austrian Alpine Open, a victory at the KLM Open, and a victory at the Italian Open.

The Spaniard has yet to make an impact at the Open de Espana, finishing T65 in 2024 before missing the cut in 2025.

Lopez-Chacarra will be aiming to win his third DP World Tour title of the year in his homeland this weekend.

Marco Penge

Marco Penge has been in decent nick on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour lately, placing T6 at the British Masters, T18 at the Omega European Masters, T10 at the Biltmore Championship Asheville before finishing T68 at the Bank of Utah Championship last weekend.

Other noteworthy results achieved by Penge this season include a T25 at the BMW Australian PGA Championship, a T16 at the Genesis Invitational, a T4 at the Valspar Championship, a T21 at the Valero Texas Open, a T9 at the BMW International Open, and a T18 at the Open Championship.

The three-time DP World Tour winner missed the cut on debut at the 2024 Open de Espana before securing victory last year.

Penge has the form to defend his title in Madrid this weekend.

Joakim Lagergren

Joakim Lagergren has found some form on the DP World Tour lately, placing T9 at the British Masters, T11 at the Omega European Masters, MC at the Amgen Irish Open, T10 at the BMW PGA Championship, and T30 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last weekend.

Additional highlights from Lagergren's season include a T15 at the Qatar Masters, a T23 at the Magical Kenya Open, a T18 at the Turkish Airlines Open, a T17 at the Catalunya Championship, and 4th at the Italian Open.

The 34-year-old has made eight appearances at the Open de Espana, finishing T59 in 2012, T21 in 2013, MC in 2015, MC in 2016, MC in 2018, T39 in 2021, T23 in 2022, and T5 in 2025.

Lagergren could upstage the others with a victory at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid after his recent performances.

Verdict

Aberg has gone close to winning multiple times this season and will have a chance of victory in Madrid if he can replicate those results.

Lopez-Chacarra has been in excellent form this season and can emerge victorious in Spain come Sunday.

Penge has been thereabouts on the leaderboards lately and can win back-to-back Open de Espana titles this weekend.

Lagergren appears to have turned the corner and could cause an upset with a victory at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
