Denmark is positioned favorably to clinch victory in the handball finals, thanks to Mathias Gidsel's exceptional performance and the team's balanced strategy on both offense and defense. The article highlights the anticipated advantage Denmark holds, recommending a bet with a -5.5 handicap in their favor. Gidsel's prowess is unmatched, contributing significantly to Denmark's edge. Those looking to wager on the outcome should consider these strengths, as the Danes are poised to lift the trophy and assert their dominance in the sport.

Match Preview

Germany had no answer for Denmark’s rock-solid defense when these two sides met in the Main Round, and I don’t see much room for adjustment ahead of the final. With momentum firmly on their side, I am backing the tournament hosts to win without too much trouble and secure the European Championship title.

Denmark Peaking at the Perfect Moment

Denmark hit a few bumps along the way, but they have fully earned their place in the European Championship 2026 final, where they will look to add another trophy to their existing World and Olympic titles.

After a shaky group stage in which they lost to Portugal and carried zero points into the Main Round, the Danes were immediately put to the test against France. Trailing for long stretches, they were inspired by Mathias Gidsel and claimed a crucial 32-29 victory.

From that point on, Denmark raised their level significantly, outplaying Spain 36-31, Germany 31-26 and then dismantling Norway 38-24 to top Group 1 and book a semifinal spot in dominant fashion.

The semifinal against Iceland proved tricky early on, with Denmark edging a tight first half 14-13, but their offensive efficiency and defensive pressure eventually made the difference in a 31-28 win, Gidsel once again leading the way with seven goals.

Germany Relying on Collective Effort

Germany produced a strong team performance in the semifinal against Croatia, with six players scoring four or more goals in a deserved 31-28 victory. They repeatedly punished slow substitutions and found success from the wings.

Earlier, in the decisive Main Round clash, the Germans were at their best against France, controlling the game from start to finish in a high-scoring 38-34 win to secure second place in Group 2. Juri Knorr was outstanding in that matchup, finishing with 11 goals.

Prior to that, Germany recorded wins over Portugal 32-30 and Norway 30-28, while suffering a convincing 31-26 defeat to Denmark, a result that highlighted the gap between the two sides at this stage of the tournament.

Verdict

Mathias Gidsel continues to look unstoppable, and Denmark’s balance at both ends of the court gives them a clear edge in this final. I am backing the Danes to lift the trophy and cover a –5.5 handicap.
