Betting odds hint at a possible shake-up in China, with Xi Jinping's position as the president potentially ending in 2025. Despite holding immense power and removing term limits in 2018, there is still a 9% chance that he could be ousted. Political uncertainties and economic difficulties, such as high youth unemployment and local-government debt, undermine Xi’s authority. Rumors are bolstered by unexplained military purges and leadership changes, with some speculating a transition may occur around the CCP’s Fourth Plenum in August.

Xi Jinping's position as president of the People's Republic of China is being question with betting odds launched on whether he will leave in 2025.

Xi currently holds the three of the most powerful positions in the Chinese political system, but could his time as leader of the country be coming to an end.

He has been the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and commander-in-chief of the armed forces since November 2012, as well as president of China since March 2013.

Despite removing presidential term limits in 2018, allowing him to rule indefinitely, betting odds and predictive models suggest there is a 9% chance he will not be president as 2026 is ushered in.

Xi Jinping To Be Ousted Betting Odds

Traders give roughly a one‑in‑11 chance that Xi loses power at any point in 2025 and only a one‑in‑25 chance that it happens before October.

They are the two most-traded markets over the Chinese leader's future at the helm.

In the overall "First World Leader Out In 2025", it is a 5% chance that it will be Xi. Japan's leader Shigeru Ishiba leads that poll with a 39% possibility, while Benjamin Netanyahu is also at 5%. No leader leaving this year is 31% likely.

Political Background Surrounding Xi Jinping

Rumours of a leadership shake‑up surged after a series of unexplained purges in the People’s Liberation Army and the summer disappearance of several senior generals.

Analysts point to the demotion of Miao Hua and the vanishing of Vice‑Chairman He Weidong as evidence that the coalition that brought Xi to power is fraying.

Concurrently, economic headwinds - property‑sector distress, ballooning local‑government debt and record youth unemployment - have eroded the aura of technocratic competence that once insulated Xi from factional rivals.

International media have begun treating a partial or full exit as plausible witt recent opinion columns in US outlets speculating openly about a transfer of power at or before the CCP’s Fourth Plenum in August.

Xi has centralized authority more aggressively than his predecessors, dismantling the “collective leadership” model of the post-Mao era.

His administration has been marked by a sweeping anti-corruption campaign, used to consolidate power and purge rivals.

They have also has reassertion of party control over civil society, business and media, expanded state surveillance and internet censorship and introduce assertive foreign policy, including Belt and Road Initiative and increasing confrontation with the US.
