Elena Rybakina enters the Dubai tournament in exceptional form. Having regained her career-high ranking of No. 3, Rybakina is fresh off an impressive season start, including an Australian Open title. Her head-to-head record against Kimberly Birrell is 1-0, and she remains undefeated in Dubai's opening rounds. Despite Birrell's recent improvements and entry into the top 100, Rybakina's superior experience and consistency suggest she is a strong favorite to win their encounter.

Rybakina’s top-three form makes her the clear standout here, with Birrell unlikely to have enough to seriously threaten her.

  • She is 5–0 in Dubai opening rounds.

In-Form Rybakina Targets Another Deep Run

Elena Rybakina exited Doha in the quarterfinals, losing to Victoria Mboko in three sets after holding a break lead in the decider.

She has started the season strongly, winning 11 matches, capturing the Australian Open title, and reaching the quarterfinals in Brisbane and Doha.

After dropping out of the top 10 in early 2025, she regained form from the North American swing and is now back to her career-high ranking of No. 3.

Rybakina is making her sixth Dubai appearance and is 5-0 in opening rounds, with a runner-up finish in 2020 and deep runs in recent years.

Birrell Battles Through to Dubai Second Round

Kimberly Birrell reached the second round in Dubai with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win over Tatjana Maria. She also beat Katie Volynets and Tereza Valentova in qualifying.

The Australian endured a difficult stretch last year, failing to record a main-draw win from Wimbledon through Tokyo, which saw her drop outside the top 100.

However, a runner-up finish in Chennai and semifinal runs at W75 events in Sydney and Adelaide earlier this year helped her climb back into the top 100.

In 2025, she reached the second round in Miami, Indian Wells, and Cincinnati but lost each time to top-30 opponents. She now faces another higher-ranked test in the next round.

Verdict

Elena Rybakina’s strong form and return to the top three underline her dominance heading into this clash, and with Kimberly Birrell lacking the weapons and consistency to trouble elite opponents, Rybakina stands out as a commanding favourite to win comfortably.
