Hijikata Finally Beats a Top 10 Player


Rinky Hijikata has been out of the Top 100 since August and been primarily competing on the Challenger circuit.

The Australian failed to get past the second round in three events on home soil. He failed to improve in the northern hemisphere, knocked out in the first round in Delray Beach and Acapulco.

The 25-year-old came through the qualifiers in Indian Wells before beating Francesco Maestrelli 7-6 6-4. He has eliminated two seeds since, defeating Luciano Darderi 4-6 6-2 6-4 and Alexander Bublik 6-7 7-6 6-3.

The victory over Bulbik was Hijikata’s first win against a Top 10 player in 13 attempts. He had lost in straight sets in 11 of his 12 previous defeats.

Norrie Finding Form in Indian Wells


Cameron Norrie is yet to reach a quarter-final this year, four of his five defeats coming against players outside the Top 50.

The 30-year-old lost to World No.119 Christopher O’Connell in the second round in Rotterdam. It was a similar story in Acapulco, beaten in the first round by World No.114 Rafael Jodar.

The Brit has turned it around in Indian Wells where he won the 2021 title. He beat Mackenzie McDonald 6-2 6-3 and upset Alex de Minaur 6-4 6-4, saving a combined 11/13 break points.

Cameron Norrie has been impressive in Indian Wells where he is a previous winner. Rinky Hijikata beat Alexander Bublik 6-7 7-6 6-3 in the third round, over 20.5 games my best bet.
