Bayern Looking to Defend the Title
The Bavarians underperformed defensively in the finals opener but still came away with a 102-94 victory against Alba Berlin. Andreas Obst delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 33 points while shooting 6/12 from three-point range.
Svetislav Pesic’s side could not replicate that level in Game 2, particularly on the offensive end, and suffered an 86-79 defeat in front of the home crowd.
Bayern responded immediately and regained control of the series by claiming a 91-83 road victory in Berlin. Nenad Dimitrijevic hit several key shots in the final quarter and finished with 19 points and seven assists, while Vladimir Lucic added 15 points and seven rebounds.
The Bavarians failed to finish the job in Game 4 though, producing a disastrous second half where they scored just 16 points total and lost 71-61 after poor shooting numbers across the board.
Alba Berlin Tagged Underdogs Once Again
The Albatrosses opened this series with a 102-94 defeat in one of the most entertaining playoff games so far, as both teams posted excellent shooting numbers, but responded with a major upset by defeating the reigning champions 86-79 in a much slower-paced Game 2.
They stayed level with Bayern for three quarters in Game 3 but eventually lost 91-83, mainly due to poor execution at the free-throw line (14/24). Paint control remained excellent though, with Alba winning the rebounding battle 41-33.
The Berlin side tied the series on Friday with a 71-61 victory thanks to outstanding second-half defense. Justin Bean was named man of the match with 17 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Alba limited Bayern to just 27 second-half points and proved once again they can compete physically despite their long playoff run.
