Match Preview
Real Madrid have won their last 12 home matches against Bilbao, with their last defeat coming in February 2012. Can the Basque side stop the in-form Los Blancos from claiming a sixth straight victory across competitions?
Real Madrid Look Unstoppable
After a very rough start to the new EuroLeague campaign, suffering three consecutive defeats to Dubai, Anadolu Efes and Hapoel Tel Aviv, Real Madrid have recovered and are currently riding a five-game winning streak.
Theo Maledon carried them to a 98-89 victory against Milano on Tuesday, while the winning run was extended on Thursday with an impressive shooting performance in a 111-92 home win over ASVEL. Andres Feliz dominated the floor with 26 points.
In domestic action, Real Madrid have been impeccable, securing three victories in three ACB Liga rounds. They outplayed Unicaja 89-87, defeated Obradoiro CAB 114-107 in overtime and most recently thrashed Manresa 120-83.
Bilbao Lost Their First Road Game
Bilbao are coming off a 97-86 victory against Slavia Prague in the FIBA Champions League in midweek. The game was much tighter than the final score might suggest, with slightly better shooting (46% vs 38%) helping the Spanish side secure the win.
The Basque side opened the new ACB Liga campaign with a 107-92 home victory against Manresa in late September before losing 104-101 to Leyma Coruna on the road in overtime.
Last weekend, they returned to winning ways in front of their home crowd, outpacing San Pablo Burgos 96-87 after a strong finish. Margiris Normantas was named man of the match with 14 points on 5/10 field-goal shooting.
Verdict
Real Madrid have looked unstoppable over the last 20 days, claiming five consecutive victories across competitions, and traditionally perform well against Bilbao in the Spanish capital. A home win with a -9.5 handicap is my prediction here.
