Sagesse Hoping to Level the Series
Sagesse Beirut finished second in the Lebanese Basketball League regular season with an 18-4 record before cruising past Homenetmen Beirut 3-0 in the quarter-finals.
The semi-final series against Al Makrazia proved more competitive. Sagesse narrowly lost Game 3 by a 75-74 scoreline but won the other three games convincingly to book their place in the finals.
Their title bid began with a heartbreaking 92-89 defeat to archrivals Al-Riyadi earlier this week. Sagesse trailed by 14 points entering the final quarter but mounted a strong comeback, ultimately falling just short.
Al-Riyadi Eyeing a 2-0 Advantage
Al-Riyadi once again dominated the regular season, winning 21 of their 22 games before sweeping Beirut Club 3-0 in the quarter-finals.
The reigning Lebanese champions were surprised in Game 1 of their semi-final series against Antonine, suffering a 76-72 home defeat, but they responded emphatically with three straight victories, winning 74-57, 113-81 and 90-65.
Al-Riyadi controlled most of Game 1 of the finals, racing to a 33-22 lead after the opening quarter. Although they allowed Sagesse back into the contest late on, they held their nerve to secure a 92-89 victory.
