Seattle Having a Disastrous Campaign
Seattle Storm are enduring a disastrous WNBA campaign, arguably their worst in the last decade, sitting bottom of the standings with a 6-27 record and currently riding an eleven-game losing run.
There were signs of improvement against Atlanta Dream last weekend, but the Storm still fell 98-89 in Georgia. A poor first half proved costly as they trailed by 14 points at the break.
They played two road games against New York Liberty since then. There was little resistance against the favored side in the first encounter, losing 95-83, while two nights ago they lost 92-86, staying shoulder to shoulder for almost 35 minutes.
Portland Fire Most Likely out of Playoff Picture
Portland Fire are one of the league's newer franchises and have also struggled this season, winning just 12 of their 31 games to sit seventh in the Western Conference.
They endured a difficult second half of July, losing four straight games to Minnesota Lynx (101-93), Dallas Wings (101-97), Las Vegas Aces (98-83) and Indiana Fever (112-98).
Their first opportunity to end that run this month also ended in disappointment, suffering a 106-101 home defeat to Los Angeles Sparks. Portland led by six points at halftime but allowed 63 second-half points as their defensive issues resurfaced.
The negative run was finally cut last night by taking down another newcomer to the WNBA, Toronto Tempo, 97-83 in front of the home crowd. Carla Leite delivered an outstanding performance with 27 points and 11 assists.
