Connecticut Sun Hoping to End the Slide
Even though we are still early in the new WNBA season, Connecticut Sun’s chances of staying in the playoff race are already under pressure after securing just two wins in 16 matches and sitting bottom of the standings.
They are yet to win a game in June, opening the month with defeats against Atlanta Dream 91-75, Chicago Sky 85-80, New York Liberty 89-80, Toronto Tempo 106-102 (overtime) and Indiana Fever 85-75.
In their most recent outing, the Sun faced another struggling side in Washington Mystics earlier this week and suffered an 88-81 home defeat, mostly due to poor first-half execution where they scored just 29 points. Aneesah Morrow had a decent performance with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Toronto Tempo Hit a Rough Patch
Toronto Tempo are having a respectable debut WNBA season so far, currently sitting 4th in the Eastern Conference with a 6-7 record and slightly stronger results at home (4-3).
Their recent form has dipped though. After edging Connecticut Sun 106-102 in an overtime thriller, they suffered back-to-back defeats against Washington Mystics 86-85 and Atlanta Dream 102-77 in mid-June.
Tempo were nowhere near causing an upset in their most recent appearance against Indiana Fever, suffering a third consecutive loss 113-91. Poor paint protection (27-43 rebounds) and missed opportunities at the free throw line (12/19) played a major role.
