Ireland vs Oman Betting Tips & Live Stream - Ireland to dominate against struggling Oman in T20 Cricket World Cup clash

Ireland and Oman prepare to face off with both teams struggling in their initial matches. Ireland has shown resilience, coming close in their games, whereas Oman has faltered rapidly under pressure. With a 4-1 head-to-head advantage, Ireland appears poised to claim victory, especially if Harry Tector maintains his form. Despite their setbacks, Oman has seen commendable efforts from players like Mohammad Nadeem, but need to overcome inconsistent performances. Injury concerns for Ireland's captain might influence lineup decisions, but they are still expected to outplay Oman.

Ireland and Oman have both lost their opening two games but Ireland have at least shown a competitive edge while Oman have collapsed under the first sign of pressure. Given Ireland's record against the Asian outfit, I am backing the Irish to win.

Key Stats - Oman Woeful in opening Two Games

  • Ireland’s Harry Tector top-scored with 40 off 34 balls against Sri Lanka.
  • Ireland’s Lorcan Tucker has scored 38, 21 & 24 in his last 4 innings.
  • Oman’s Mohammad Nadeem has scored 36*, 21*, 28, 25 & 53* in his last 8 innings.
  • Oman’s Wasim Ali has scored 54* & 27 in his last 5 innings.

Ireland Lead H2H against Oman

Ireland lead 4-1 in their five previous T20I matches against Oman.

Ireland Two Defeats in Two

After coming within 20 runs of a win against Sri Lanka, Ireland’s batters collapsed as they lost to Australia by 67 runs.

Ireland’s bowlers did superbly to limit Australia to 149/5 in the 17th over, only for the Aussies to smash 33 runs off the last three overs. Mark Adair (2/44) picked up two top-six Aussie wickets, but the best performance with the ball came from George Dockrell, who completed his four overs at a cost of 31 runs (econ 7.75) while picking up the wicket of opener Josh Inglis.

Dockerell's previous four matches saw him return figures of 1/18, 1/12, 2/12 and 2/17. Adair has also been picking up wickets consistently, with returns of 2/23, 1/28, 1/31 and 1/33 in his last four matches.

Ireland’s top order imploded, being reduced to 89/6 with only Lorcan Tucker (24 off 27) of the top seven passing 12 runs. George Dockrell hit three fours and two sixes in a defiant 29-ball 41, but his innings was in vain as Ireland were bowled out for 115 in under 17 overs.

Oman Struggling for Momentum

Oman suffered an eight-wicket defeat in their opener against Zimbabwe and followed it up by going down to Zimbabwe by 105 runs.

Oman’s attack was pounded by an in-form Sri Lanka top order, who raised a total of 225 runs off their 20 overs. Shah Faisal (0/28, econ 7.00) was the tightest of the Oman bowlers. The rest of the attack all went for 10 runs or more per over, but Jiten Ramanandi (2/41, econ 10.25) enjoyed the most success, knocking over two of Sri Lanka’s three half-centurions.

Oman lost their first two wickets off the opening seven balls of their innings and soon after were 36/3. Mohammad Nadeem (53* off 56) and Wasim Ali (27 off 20) offered some resistance, but they were the only two Oman batters to reach double figures as they could only muster 120/9 off their 20 overs.

Ireland vs Oman News & Predicted Lineups

Ireland’s captain Paul Stirling is an injury concern ahead of their crucial clash against Oman, which could potentially be their only win of this year’s tournament. Stirling injured his knee going for a catch against Australia in their last game and was forced to retire hurt after facing just one ball.

"It doesn't look great. He went for a scan this evening, so we'll have to wait for confirmation. But yeah, I would say it doesn't look ideal," said batting coach Gary Wilson at the post-match press conference.

"I think credit to him that he knew going out there that he was probably not quite right and he still tried to go out there and get the job done for the team. Unfortunately it wasn't to be tonight," added Wilson, who confirmed that vice-captain Lorcan Tucker would lead the side, with Tim Tector lined up as a replacement for Stirling if his injury rules him out of the match day XI.

"Tthe brand of cricket we played in the last two matches, we are not this kind of a team, we are a better team. But the boys could not play according to their abilities. They are much more, they have much better ability," said Mohammad Nadeem, Oman’s top scorer against Sri Lanka, in the post-match press conference.

Oman’s 43-year-old all-rounder Aamir Kaleem is now the oldest player to feature in a T20 World Cup, and he told India’s Economic Times that he’s not ready to retire any time soon.

"I am still hungry (to ‌play)... I'm a strong believer in keeping myself fit at this age and doing my process. We are lacking the experience of playing at the highest levels. All the associate teams have very good talent, but the only thing we are not getting are the regular opportunities to play against the test nations or in such tournaments," said Kaleem.

"In this World Cup, we saw England vs Nepal and ‌the Netherlands vs Pakistan and it was exciting to see how the associate teams were giving a tough time to the test teams. I think ICC has to look forward to giving more opportunities in the future,” added the all-rounder who scored 5 and 6 in the first two matches of the World Cup on the back of scores of 28, 80 and 23 in his previous three knocks.

Ireland (possible XI): Tim Tector, Ross Adair, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker (c), Curtis Campher, Benjamin Calitz, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy, Matthew Humphreys.

Oman (possible XI): Aamir Kaleem, Jatinder Singh (c), Hammad Mirza, Wasim Ali, Mohammad Nadeem, Jiten Ramanandi, Vinayak Shukla, Sufyan Mehmood, Nadeem Khan, Shah Faisal, Jay Odedra.

Verdict

I am backing Ireland to win. I am also backing Harry Tector to top score for Ireland.

Mohammad Nadeem is a good bet to top score for Oman.
