Trent Rockets head into their next fixture against Birmingham Phoenix as overwhelming favourites, with an eight-match home winning streak and four wins from their last five games. Ben Duckett’s stellar form boosts the Rockets’ hopes as they aim to cement their playoff spot. Meanwhile, Phoenix are fighting to revive their campaign after a forgettable season. Key battles include Duckett vs Phoenix bowlers and Rehan Ahmed’s impact with the ball. Expect the Rockets’ strong batting to test Phoenix’s fragile lineup.

Trent Rockets have won four of their five matches this season and are yet to lose at home. I do not see that changing when bottom-of-the-table, Birmingham Phoenix visit.

Key Stats - Trent Rockets Superb in The Hundred

  • Trent Rockets’ Ben Duckett has scored 49, 75, 52* & 64 in his last 5 knocks.
  • Trent Rockets’ Aneurin Donald has scores of 65, 91 & 40 in his last 4 innings.
  • Trent Rockets’ Craig Overton has figures of 2/40, 3/23 & 1/11 in 4 matches.
  • Birmingham Phoenix’s Joe Clarke has scored 64, 68, 20 & 35 in his last 5 matches.
  • Birmingham Phoenix’s Will Smeed has scores of 49, 51 & 35 in his last 5 innings.
  • Birmingham Phoenix’s Rehan Ahmed has taken 2/46, 2/43 & 3/25 in his last 5 matches.

Phoenix Hold Edge

Trent Rockets have won two and lost three of their last five matches in The Hundred against the Birmingham Phoenix. The Rockets have won two of those last three matches.

Trent Rockets Four Wins from Five

Trent Rockets are enjoying an outstanding campaign, sitting top of the table with four wins from five matches. Sam Billings’ side were pushed hard by Sunrisers Leeds in their previous game, but held their nerve to claim a five-run victory. Another win here would put them in a strong position to secure a place in the next round.

Ben Duckett has been in superb touch, scoring 240 runs in five games and will be expected to give the Rockets another strong start alongside Finn Allen. Aneurin Donald should also take confidence from his match-winning effort in the last game and will be important in the middle order with Billings and Tim David.

The Rockets also have depth and power lower down, with Mitchell Santner, Lewis Gregory and Craig Overton all capable of adding quick runs.

With the ball, Mohammad Amir has delivered tight spells and will be expected to set the tone with Overton, who has taken five wickets this season. Calvin Harrison and Matt Henry will look to keep control through the middle overs, while Santner and Gregory add useful support options.

Birmingham Phoenix Bottom of the Pile

Birmingham Phoenix remain bottom of the table after a difficult campaign and come into this match following a seven-wicket defeat to Welsh Fire. Donovan Ferreira’s side have struggled for rhythm, particularly with the bat, and now need a strong response to keep their faint hopes alive.

Mitchell Owen and Will Smeed must provide a better start, as early wickets have hurt Phoenix throughout the season. Joe Clarke has been their most reliable batter with 130 runs and will again be central in the middle order alongside Rehan Ahmed and Laurie Evans.

Ferreira, Sean Dickson and Scott Currie also need to contribute lower down if Phoenix are to post or chase a competitive total.

Their bowling attack faces a major test against a strong Trent line-up. Saqib Mahmood and Chris Wood must strike early, while Rehan Ahmed, despite taking five wickets, will need more control after proving expensive. Currie, Usman Tariq and Owen will also have important supporting roles as Phoenix search for a much-needed turnaround.

Predicted Lineups & Team news

The Trent Rockets batters have been in brilliant form this season and will give the Phoenix attack a real challenge. The Phoenix must win to keep their playoff hopes alive so they are likely to throw everything at the Rockets.

Trent Rockets (possible XI): Sam Billings (c), Ben Duckett, Finn Allen, Aneurin Donald, Tim David, Mitchell Santner, Lewis Gregory, Craig Overton, Calvin Harrison, Matt Henry, Mohammad Amir.

Birmingham Phoenix (possible XI): Donovan Ferreira (c), Mitchell Owen, Joe Clarke, Will Smeed, Rehan Ahmed, Laurie Evans, Sean Dickson, Scott Currie, Chris Wood, Saqib Mohamood, Usman Tariq.

Verdict

Trent Rockets are huge favourites to pick up a fifth straight win against battling Birmingham Phoenix. Ben Duckett is leading the charge of the Rockets’ powerful batting lineup. Rehan Ahmed, Joe Clarke and Craig Overton are also backed to star with bat and ball.
