The League of Legends esports scene shifts its focus towards France this month, for the long-awaited LoL Esports World Cup 2026.

The LoL EWC 2026 is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, July 15, when 16 teams will enter the race for the lion’s share of the US$2,000,000 prize pool and the coveted trophy.

The tournament is not a part of the Riot competitive ecosystem, but is no less prestigious, as it welcomes some of the world’s strongest and highest-rated squads, such as Hanwha Life Esports, Bilibili Gaming, T1, Gen.G, G2 Esports, LYON, JD Gaming, AG.AL and many more – ensuring a highly competitive and entertaining tournament no Esporta fan should miss.

Yet even in this long list of strong title contenders, the top-rated bookmakers have picked out their favourites to make a run for the trophy, with the MSI finalists, Hanwha Life Esports and Bilibili Gaming, leading the way as two teams to beat.

However, with other heavyweights in the mix, the road to the top will not be easy for anyone.

Below is our free LoL Esports World Cup preview, with schedule, format, favourites, and outright betting odds, courtesy of the top-rated esports bookmakers.

LoL Esports World Cup 2026 Format

LoL Esports World Cup follows a very straightforward format, dividing the event into two stages – the group stage and playoffs.

The event begins with all 16 participating teams seeded into one of four double-elimination (GSL) groups of four. There, they’ll play a series of best-of-one (BO1) games throughout, except for the elimination matches, which are best-of-three (BO3).

The top two teams per group will advance to the single-elimination playoffs, where all games will be best-of-three (BO3), except for the grand finals, which are best-of-five (BO5).

  • Four double-elimination (GSL) groups of four

LoL Esports World Cup 2026 Favourites

LoL EWC will welcome 16 of the world’s best teams, with a highly competitive and stacked field, ensuring the road to the top will be filled with obstacles for all aspiring squads.

However, while there will be no shortage of world-class talent at the EWC, there is a line between the main title contenders and the rest.

To no one’s surprise, the recently crowned Mid-Season Invitational champions, Hanwha Life Esports, lead the power rankings as the team to beat. The Korean powerhouse have been having a very solid season, and they peaked at the right time to claim both the LCK spring and MSI titles.

With that success, HLE are the hottest LoL team in the scene, and the team to stop in France.

The two-time LoL Pro League (LPL) champions and MSI 2026 finalists, Bilibili Gaming, are close behind Hanwha Life as another potential EWC champion.

Despite losing the MSI finals and consequently their chance of completing the Golden Road, BLG have long been regarded as one of the world’s strongest teams, and that hasn’t changed.

Fielding some of the best players in their respective roles, Bilibili Gaming are expected to make a deep run at the EWC and continue making a name for themselves as a serious threat for LoL Worlds title.

Sitting behind the two MSI finalists are T1 and Gen.G, two Korean powerhouses who have yet to reach the expected heights this season. But while their accomplishments have been mediocre, T1 and Gen.G, at least on paper, remain one of the scariest teams in the world, and two squads who are not to be ignored.

T1, in particular, will want to prove their worth after an early MSI exit, whereas Gen.G have to show something after missing the MSI entirely, which puts a big question mark above them heading into the summer split.

Among the Western teams, G2 Esports and LYON stand out as the only two squads with a realistic chance to make a splash.

LYON, in particular impressed at MSI, where they came one map short of reaching the finals. Meanwhile, G2 Esports head to France with a point to prove, following a crushing loss to LYON in the MSI lower bracket semifinals, looking to re-establish themselves as one of the West's greats.
