Team Liquid return to the arena this week, for the first time since The International, where they finished in a solid fifth-sixth place, following a 0-2 loss to the eventual champions, Team Spirit.
For BLAST SLAM VIII, Liquid will field a different lineup, with two new players. Wisper will make his official debut for Liquid as a new no.3, while MidOne will serve as a stand-in, filling in the gap left behind by Michał "Nisha" Jankowski, who decided to take a break from pro play.
With two new faces joining the Liquid roster, it is hard to properly evaluate where they stand or how they will do. Synergy could be an issue, assuming the players haven’t scrimmed enough together; however, the quality is still there, and that alone can carry Liquid over many lower-rated teams.

Yakult Brothers enter BLAST SLAM VIII with a point to prove, after going through a very underwhelming season. The Chinese team have yet to win a tournament this year, and aside from Games of the Future in August, they haven’t come close to winning an event.
More recently, Yakult Brothers attended PGL Wallachia Season 9, which was their first proper challenge since ESL One Birmingham in March, and they did not impress. With defeats to LGD Gaming (1-2), Pipsqueak +4 (1-2), and Conventus Stellarum (0-2), Yakult Brothers crashed out of the tournament in second-to-last place, which is not a good look for them.
After failing to deliver against teams like that, Yakult Brothers are not expected to do much better against higher-rated opponents like Liquid.
