IPL 2025 Injury list: Gaikwad, Zampa out of season, Dhoni to lead CSK

Several teams have been hit by significant injuries to their seasons, including Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings.

CSK’s captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sunrisers’ Adam Zampa have been ruled out of the season while Punjab’s Lockie Ferguson is all but out of the tournament.

Gaikwad Out, Dhoni to captain

Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out with an elbow injury that he sustained against Rajasthan Royals on March 30. He was hit by a delivery from fast bowler Tushar Deshpande.

MS Dhoni will lead CSK for the rest of the season. CSK have signed Ayush Mhatre as his replacement for INR 30 lakhs.

"Dhoni had no hesitation to step up and help guide us out of this if we can," coach Stephen Fleming said. "So that was never a doubt. We'll look at replacements. We've got some good players in the squad that have been with us a while, so we'll look from within first. But yeah, there is an opportunity to see how we can enhance the squad probably moving forward into subsequent years."

Zampa’s Shoulder Injury Returns

Adam Zampa has flown back to Australia after his shoulder injury recurred following the first two matches of the tournament. Zampa will now play no further part in IPL 2025 after the franchise opted to replace him with batter R Smaran for the rest of the season.

Smaran was in excellent form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with 433 runs in seven innings with a stunning average of over 70.

Ferguson Out Indefinitely

Punjab confirmed that Ferguson is likely out of the season after suffering a serious injury, according to fast bowling coach James Hopes. He had bowled just two balls against Sunrisers before leaving the field.

"Ferguson is out indefinitely, and the chances of us getting him back by the end of the tournament are very slim, I would have thought," Hopes said. "I think he has sustained a pretty serious injury."
